LIN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM Rain Sensor LIN Communication Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The LIN communication of the components related to the rain sensor occurs between the rain sensor and windshield wiper ECU.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

When using the intelligent tester with the engine switch off to troubleshoot:

Connect the intelligent tester to the vehicle, and turn a courtesy switch on and off at 1.5 second intervals until communication between the intelligent tester and vehicle begins.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RAIN SENSOR - WINDSHIELD WIPER ECU AND OVERHEAD JUNCTION BLOCK)


    1. Disconnect the E139 ECU connector.

    2. Disconnect the R11 sensor connector.

    3. Disconnect the R7 and R12 junction block connectors.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R11-1 (MPX) - E139-14 (MPX1) Always Below 1 Ω
      R11-4 (SIG) - R7-8 (IG2) Always Below 1 Ω
      R11-2 (ES) - R12-19 (GND2) Always Below 1 Ω
      R11-1 (MPX) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      R11-4 (SIG) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      R11-2 (ES) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    5. Reconnect the R7 and R12 junction block connectors.

    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      R11-4 (SIG) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK

  2. REPLACE RAIN SENSOR


    1. Temporarily replace the rain sensor with a new one Click here.

    2. Check the rain sensor function is normal.

      OK
      Rain sensor function is normal

    OK

    END (RAIN SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE)
