TROUBLESHOOTING PRECAUTIONS
When there is a malfunction with terminal contact points or a problem with the installation of a part, reconnecting the connectors or removal/installation of the suspected parts may return the system to the normal condition either completely or temporarily.
In order to clearly determine the malfunctioning area, be sure to check the operation conditions at the time the malfunction occurred, using information such as DTCs and freeze frame data, and record it before disconnecting connectors or removing and installing parts.
Since this system may be influenced by malfunctions in systems other than the electric parking brake system, be sure to also check other systems for DTCs.
Unless otherwise stated, ensure that the engine switch is off when removing or installing parts.
Before disconnecting connectors or fuses, turn the engine switch off and wait 20 seconds or more.
If a component has been removed and installed, confirm that the system operates normally by checking for DTCs after installation has been completed.
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
When tilting the vehicle to perform work after parking the vehicle on a level surface, since a sufficient amount of braking force may not be generated, make sure to pull the electric parking brake switch assembly 2 times (2 lock operations).
Tech Tips
The electric parking brake determines the amount of force used to operate the parking brake according to the tilt angle detected by the deceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly).
When the electric parking brake switch assembly is pulled 2 times (2 lock operations), the system uses the maximum amount of braking force.
If a component has been removed and installed, confirm that the system operates normally by checking for DTCs after installation has been completed.
PRECAUTIONS FOR REPLACEMENT AND REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF RELATED COMPONENTS
If the parking brake ECU assembly or parking brake with bracket actuator assembly is replaced, perform the "Reset Memory" and "Acquire Tension Sensor Zero Point" procedures Click here.
If either of the following is performed, perform parking brake bedding Click here.
Rear disc is replaced or removed and installed.
Parking brake shoe is replaced or removed and installed.
Parking brake with bracket actuator assembly is replaced or removed and installed.
CAN COMMUNICATION PRECAUTIONS
The CAN communication system is used for communication between the parking brake ECU assembly, skid control ECU (master cylinder solenoid), ECM, deceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) and combination meter assembly. If a CAN communication malfunction is detected, DTCs corresponding to the malfunction will be stored.
If a CAN DTC is output, repair the CAN malfunction first, and then troubleshoot the electric parking brake system while communication is normal.
Since each CAN communication line has a specific length and route, bypass wires cannot be used for temporary repairs.
