AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM INITIALIZATION

  1. RESET MEMORY

    Note

    • Perform Reset Memory (AT initialization) when replacing the automatic transmission assembly, transmission valve body assembly, shift solenoid valve SL1, SL2, SL3, SL4, SL5 or TCM.

    • Reset Memory can be performed only with the GTS.

    Tech Tips

The TCM memorizes the vehicle conditions when the ECT controls the automatic transmission assembly and transmission valve body assembly. Therefore, when the automatic transmission assembly, transmission valve body assembly or any of the shift solenoid valves has been replaced, it is necessary to reset the memory so that the TCM can memorize the new information.

The reset procedure is as follows.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Utility / Reset Memory.

      Note

After performing Reset Memory, be sure to perform "Perform Road Test to Allow TCM to Learn" described below.

      Tech Tips

The TCM learns through "Perform Road Test to Allow TCM to Learn".

  2. PERFORM ROAD TEST TO ALLOW TCM TO LEARN

    CAUTION:

Make sure to comply with the legal speed limit, traffic regulations and be sure to check the road conditions and ensure safe driving when performing this road test.

    Note

    • Do not suddenly accelerate or decelerate.

    • This test must be conducted after checking and confirming that the engine is operating normally.

    • Warm up the AT fluid temperature from 50 to 80°C (122 to 176°F).

    • Perform driving learning when the automatic transmission assembly, transmission valve body assembly, shift solenoid valve SL1, SL2, SL3, SL4, SL5, TCM, ECM or engine assembly are replaced.

    Tech Tips

    • Perform driving learning after Reset Memory when the automatic transmission assembly, transmission valve body assembly, shift solenoid valve SL1, SL2, SL3, SL4, SL5 or TCM are replaced.

    • Perform driving learning only when replacing the engine assembly or ECM, and without performing Reset Memory.

    1. Perform driving learning according to the following content

        Shift Lever in D

      • Pattern 1:

Starting with the vehicle stopped, slowly accelerate by depressing the accelerator pedal so that the throttle opening angle is approximately 10% until the vehicle reaches a constant speed (50 to 70 km/h (31 to 43 mph)), and then after driving at a constant speed, release the accelerator pedal to slowly decelerate until the vehicle comes to a stop.

      • Pattern 2:

Starting with the vehicle stopped, slowly accelerate by depressing the accelerator pedal so that the throttle opening angle is approximately 20% until the vehicle reaches a constant speed (50 to 70 km/h (31 to 43 mph)), and then after driving at a constant speed, release the accelerator pedal to slowly decelerate until the vehicle comes to a stop.

Shift Lever in D + ECT 2nd switch ON

      • Pattern 3:

Turn the ECT 2nd switch to ON and starting with the vehicle stopped, up-shift to 3rd gear with the throttle opening angle at 10% or less, and after driving at a constant speed of 20 km/h (12 mph) release the accelerator pedal to slowly decelerate until the vehicle comes to a stop.

      Tech Tips

      • Apply the brakes as necessary when slowly decelerating.

      • Repeat the driving learning procedure until the gear shock and sudden engine speed increase has settled. (Guideline: approximately 5 times)

  3. ATF THERMAL DEGRADATION ESTIMATE RESET

    Note

If either of the following conditions is met, perform ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset.

    • The ATF has been replaced.

      Tech Tips

If 50000 or more is displayed for the Data List item "ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate", thermal degradation of the ATF is suspected. Perform ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset after replacing the ATF.

    • Approximately 50% or more of the ATF has been replaced during a repair of the transmission or a similar operation.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

      Note

      Do not start the engine.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Utility / ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset.
