CYLINDER HEAD GASKET REMOVAL

PROCEDURE


  1. PRECAUTION

    Note

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

  2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  4. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the exhaust manifold Click here.

  5. REMOVE CAMSHAFT


    1. Remove the camshaft Click here.

  6. REMOVE NO. 1 VALVE ROCKER ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  7. REMOVE VALVE LASH ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  8. REMOVE VALVE STEM CAP

    Click here

  9. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


    1. B0019UNE18

      Uniformly loosen and remove the 2 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

    2. B001A3PE25

      Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, uniformly loosen the 10 cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration. Remove the 10 cylinder head bolts and plate washers.

      Tech Tips

      Be sure to arrange the removed parts for each installation position separately.

      Note


      • Be careful not to drop washers into the cylinder head.

      • Head warpage or cracking could result from removing bolts in an incorrect order.

    3. Remove the cylinder head and gasket.

  10. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

      Uniformly loosen and remove the 2 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

    2. B001B4DE21

      Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, uniformly loosen the 10 cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration. Remove the 10 cylinder head bolts and plate washers.

      Tech Tips

      Be sure to arrange the removed parts for each installation position separately.

      Note


      • Be careful not to drop washers into the cylinder head.

    3. Remove the cylinder head and gasket.
