STEERING PAD REMOVAL

PROCEDURE


  1. PRECAUTION

    CAUTION:

    Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing Click here.

    Note

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.

  2. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT

  3. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM COVER LH

  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

  5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER

      Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, detach the claw to remove the lower No. 3 steering wheel cover.

  6. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER


    1. A000MS9

      Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, detach the claw to remove the lower No. 2 steering wheel cover.

  7. REMOVE STEERING PAD

    CAUTION:

    When storing the steering pad, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.


    1. Check that the power switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Using a T30H "TORX" driver, push the 3 torsion springs to detach the 3 pins as shown in the illustration.

      Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel assembly and support the steering pad with one hand as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

    5. Disconnect the horn connector from the steering pad.

    6. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the connector lock and disconnect the airbag connector.

      Note

      When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

      Tech Tips

      Use the same procedure to disconnect the airbag connector on the other side.
