Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE CYLINDER BOOT

      *3 Dust Seal Retainer

      Remove the 4 cylinder boots from the disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Note

      To prevent the dust seal retainers from being removed or scratched, always remove the cylinder boots by hand and not using a tool such as a screwdriver.

      Tech Tips

      If a dust seal retainer has been scratched or has separated from the disc brake cylinder assembly, replace the disc brake cylinder assembly.

  2. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PISTON

      Install one of the front disc brake pads.

      *b 50 mm (1.97 in.)
      *c 30 mm (1.18 in.)

      Install a wooden plate between the front disc brake pistons of the disc brake cylinder assembly to prevent the front disc brake pistons from jumping out.

    3. Using an air gun, gradually apply air and remove the 2 front disc brake pistons from the disc brake cylinder assembly.

      CAUTION:

      Do not place your fingers in front of the piston when applying air.

      Note

      Be careful not to spatter the brake fluid.

    4. Remove the front disc brake pad and wooden plate.

    5. Temporarily install the 2 front disc brake pistons that were removed. Then install the front disc brake pad to the side in which the 2 front disc brake pistons are temporarily installed.

    6. Install a wooden plate between the front disc brake pistons of the disc brake cylinder assembly to prevent the front disc brake pistons from jumping out.

    7. Using an air gun, gradually apply air and remove the 2 front disc brake pistons from the other side of the disc brake cylinder assembly.

      CAUTION:

      Do not place your fingers in front of the pistons when applying air.

  3. REMOVE PISTON SEAL

      *1 Protective Tape

      Using a screwdriver, remove the 4 piston seals from the disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Tech Tips

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the inner surface of the cylinder or piston seal groove.

  4. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG CAP

  5. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG


    1. Remove the front disc brake bleeder plug from the disc brake cylinder assembly.
