BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.

  • The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.

Note

While the auxiliary battery is connected, even if the power switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the driver door courtesy switch is turned on. Therefore, when servicing brake system components, do not depress the brake pedal or open/close the doors while the auxiliary battery is connected.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH


    1. A000OU0

      Detach the 2 clips and remove the engine room side cover LH.

  2. REMOVE ABS MOTOR RELAY


    1. B002BBI

      Remove the 2 ABS motor relays with the power switch off in order to disable brake control.

      Tech Tips

      This procedure is not required if the 2 ABS motor relays have been removed.

  3. PERFORM ACCUMULATOR ZERO DOWN


    1. A000PSI

      Drain the brake fluid in the reservoir near the MIN line.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3 with the power switch off.

    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    4. Turn the GTS on and enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRC / Utility / ECB (Electronically controlled Brake system) Utility / Zero Down.

      Tech Tips

      Using the GTS to perform accumulator zero down causes the pressurized fluid in the accumulator to be returned to the brake fluid reservoir.

    5. When the buzzer sounds, turn the power switch off.

    6. Turn the GTS off.

  4. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

    Note

    Wash off brake fluid immediately if it comes in contact with any painted surface.

  5. PRECAUTION

    Note

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the auxiliary battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

  6. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT

  7. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM COVER LH

  8. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the auxiliary battery negative (-) terminal to disable the SRS system.

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  9. REMOVE SKID CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY

  10. REMOVE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  11. DISCONNECT NO. 1 BRAKE ACTUATOR TUBE


    1. Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the No. 1 brake actuator tube from the brake master cylinder assembly.

  12. DISCONNECT NO. 2 BRAKE ACTUATOR TUBE


    1. Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the No. 2 brake actuator tube from the brake stroke simulator cylinder sub-assembly.

  13. DISCONNECT NO. 1 RESERVOIR HOSE


    1. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 1 reservoir hose from the brake master cylinder sub-assembly.

  14. REMOVE RESERVOIR HOSE BRACKET


    1. Remove the reservoir hose bracket from the No. 1 reservoir hose.

  15. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

  16. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL RETURN SPRING

  17. DISCONNECT PUSH ROD PIN

  18. REMOVE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector.

    2. Detach the clamp.

    3. A000PQJ

      Remove the 4 nuts and brake master cylinder sub-assembly.

  19. REMOVE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER GASKET


    1. Remove the brake master cylinder gasket from the brake master master cylinder sub-assembly.

  20. REMOVE BRAKE STROKE SIMULATOR CYLINDER SUB-ASSEMBLY
