SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR

   
   

   1. Apply the parking brake.

   2. Turn the power switch on (READY).

   3. Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is set to P, but does not start in other positions.

   4. Check that the back-up light comes on and the reverse warning buzzer sounds when the shift lever is set to R, but the light and buzzer do not operate in other positions. If a failure is found, check the shift lever position sensor for continuity.
