HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P3147-239, P3147-241

DTC Code DTC Name
P3147-239 Transmission system
P3147-241 Transmission system

DESCRIPTION

The hybrid vehicle transmission assembly consists of the power split planetary gear unit, MG1, MG2, and the 2-stage motor speed reduction planetary gear unit. The power split planetary gear unit uses a planetary gear to split engine output in accordance with driving requests while the vehicle is driven or the HV battery is charged. MG2 assists engine output while increasing vehicle drive force. MG2 also converts the energy, which would otherwise be consumed in the form of heat during normal braking, into electrical energy. This recovered energy is put back into the HV battery to perform regenerative braking. MG1 generates power, which is used for charging the HV battery or driving MG2, and also regulates the amount of electricity being generated. In addition, MG1 is used as a starter motor to start the engine.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (ENGINE AND ECT)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
Only P0335 is output, or no DTC is output for the SFI system. A
DTCs for the SFI system are output at the same time as P0335, or an SFI system DTC other than P0335 is output. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

  2. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.

    4. Check if DTCs are output.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
DTCs other than P3147-239 or P3147-241 are not output. A
      P3147-240 or P3147-242 is also output. B

  3. CHECK CRANKSHAFT PULLEY REVOLUTION (SHIFT LEVER IN P)

    1. With the shift lever in P, lift up the vehicle.

    2. Turn the crankshaft pulley using hand tools to check if the crankshaft can rotate smoothly.

      CAUTION:

Do not turn the power switch on (READY) while performing this inspection. Be sure to turn the power switch off before performing this inspection to prevent the engine from starting.

      Note

Engine compression causes resistance when turning the crankshaft pulley. Check if the crankshaft rotates smoothly (or if it is locked) by manually applying sufficient torque to turn the crankshaft pulley. The torque required to turn the crankshaft pulley should be the same as for a known good vehicle of the same type.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      The crankshaft rotates. A
The crankshaft does not rotate. B
    3. Lower the vehicle.

  4. CLEAR DTC

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    4. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.

    6. Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.

    7. Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.

    8. Turn the power switch off.

  5. CHECK ENGINE RACING

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (READY).

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Generator (MG1) Rev, Engine Revolution.

    4. Read the Data List.

    5. While the READY indicator is on, fully depress the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds.

      OK
      The engine revs up.

      Tech Tips

      • If the engine does not rev up and the reading on the GTS shows DTC P3147-239 (hybrid vehicle transmission input malfunction [shaft damaged]), or if MG1 turns but the engine does not crank, replace the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly.

  6. CHECK CREEP MOVEMENT

    1. Turn the power switch on (READY).

    2. Depress the brake pedal, move the shift lever to D, and release the brake pedal.

      OK
The wheels turn (the vehicle creeps forward).

      Tech Tips

If the wheels do not turn and the reading on the GTS shows DTC P3147-239, replace the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly.
