STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT TILT MOTOR


    1. Inspect the tilt motor.

        Component without harness connected

        (to Steering Column Assembly)

        Apply auxiliary battery voltage to the tilt motor connector, and check the steering wheel tilt operation.

        OK
        Measurement Condition Specified Condition

        Auxiliary battery positive (+) → Terminal 1 (TIM+)

        Auxiliary battery negative (-) → Terminal 2 (TIM-)

        Steering wheel tilts up

        Component without harness connected

        (to Steering Column Assembly)

        Apply auxiliary battery voltage to the tilt motor connector, and check the steering wheel tilt operation.

        OK
        Measurement Condition Specified Condition

        Auxiliary battery positive (+) → Terminal 2 (TIM-)

        Auxiliary battery negative (-) → Terminal 1 (TIM+)

        Steering wheel tilts down

        If the steering wheel does not tilt down, replace the steering column assembly.

  2. INSPECT TELESCOPIC MOTOR

      Front view of wire harness connector

      (to Multiplex Tilt and Telescopic ECU)

      Disconnect connector from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.

    2. Inspect the telescopic motor.


      1. Apply auxiliary battery voltage to the telescopic motor connector, and check the steering column operation.

        OK
        Measurement Condition Specified Condition

        Auxiliary battery positive (+) → Terminal 1 (TEM+)

        auxiliary battery negative (-)→ Terminal 3 (TEM-)

        Steering column contracts

        (to Multiplex Tilt and Telescopic ECU)

        Apply auxiliary battery voltage to the telescopic motor connector, and check the steering column operation.

        OK
        Measurement Condition Specified Condition

        Auxiliary battery positive (+) → Terminal 3 (TEM-)

        auxiliary battery negative (-) → Terminal 1 (TEM+)

        Steering column extends

        If the steering column operation does not match the specified condition, replace the steering column.
