Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedures for the LH side and RH side.

  • The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

CAUTION:

While the battery is connected, even if the power switch is OFF, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed with the door courtesy switch on. Therefore during servicing of the brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal and open/close the doors while the battery is connected.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A000YIU

      Install the parking brake anchor block and cable support bracket with the 2 nuts.

      Torque:
      76 N*m  { 775 kgf*cm, 56 ft.*lbf }
    2. Install the rear axle hub and bearing Click here.

  2. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE


    1. Apply a thin layer of high temperature grease to the areas where the parking brake plate contacts the parking brake shoes Click here.

  3. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY


    1. A000YCUE01

      Using SST, install the No. 2 parking brake shoe with the shoe hold down spring cup, shoe hold down spring and No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin.

      Tech Tips

      Use the service hole to retain the No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin with your finger.

  4. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY

      Using SST, install the No. 1 parking brake shoe with the shoe hold down spring cup, shoe hold down spring and No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin.

      Tech Tips

      Use the service hole to retain the No. 1 shoe hold down spring pin with your finger.

  5. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET

      *1 High-temperature grease

      Apply high-temperature grease to the thread and all joining areas of the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

    2. A000UEI

      Install the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

  6. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING


    1. A000TH3

      Install the No. 2 parking brake shoe return spring.

  7. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER

      *1 High-temperature grease
      *2 Parking Brake Anchor Block

      Apply a thin layer of high-temperature grease to the areas where the parking brake shoe lever contacts the parking brake anchor block.

    2. Install the parking brake shoe lever to the parking brake cable.

      Note

      Take care to install the correct parking brake shoe lever because the direction of the pin is different between the left and right.

      Check that the parking brake inner cable and parking brake shoe lever are securely connected by trying to pull them apart.

    4. A000ZI3

      Install the parking brake cable to the support bracket with the 2 nuts.

      Torque:
      8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }
    5. A000Y2H

      With the vehicle on the ground, check that the gap between the parking brake cable and drive shaft, and the gap between the parking brake cable and shaft boot are 10 mm (0.394 in.) or more.

      Tech Tips

      Make sure that the cable is not twisted.

  8. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING


    1. A000ZXC

      Install the No. 1 parking brake shoe return spring.

  9. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION


    1. Make sure that all the parts are installed properly.

      If necessary, reinstall the parts properly.

  10. INSTALL REAR DISC

      *a Matchmark

      Align the matchmarks on the rear disc and rear axle hub.

  11. CONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY


    1. A000XNQ

      Connect the rear disc brake caliper with 2 new bolts.

      Torque:
      86 N*m  { 877 kgf*cm, 63 ft.*lbf }

      Note


      • Do not twist the brake hose.

      • Make sure that the bolts are free from damage and foreign matter.

      • Do not overtighten the bolts.

  12. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE


    1. Adjust parking brake shoe clearance Click here.

      Note

      If the parking brake shoe clearance is not adjusted, the cable end may be damaged.

  13. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

    Torque:
    140 N*m  { 1428 kgf*cm, 103 ft.*lbf }
  14. PERFORM PARKING BRAKE SHOE BEDDING
