ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE ACTUATOR ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY

    Tech Tips

    Using the intelligent tester to perform the Active Tests allows relays, VSVs and actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.


    1. Turn the power switch OFF.

    2. Connect the intelligent tester to the the DLC3.

    3. Turn the power switch ON (IG).

    4. Turn the tester on.

    5. Enter the following menus:


      1. Select: Chassis / Electric Parking Brake / Active Test.

    6. When the vehicle's tires are lifted off the ground and the intelligent tester is used to operate the electric parking brake, check the condition of the rear tires.

    7. According to the display on tester, perform the "Active Test".

      If the result is not as specified, inspect the electric parking brake actuator Click here.

    8. Turn the power switch ON, push the electric parking brake switch to the lock side for 1 second and check that the parking brake indicator light (red) illuminates.

    9. Pull the parking brake switch to the release side for 1 second and check that the parking brake indicator light (red) turns off.

    10. Also, check that the brake warning light / yellow (minor malfunction) does not illuminate at this time.
