PROCEDURE
BEFORE REFILLING TRANSMISSION
This transmission requires Toyota Genuine ATF WS.
After servicing the transmission, you must refill the transmission with the correct amount of fluid.
Maintain the vehicle in a horizontal position while adjusting the fluid level.
New transmissions are already filled with transmission fluid.
As the specified temperature for fluid adjustment differs between vehicles used in Middle East and China, and vehicles used in other regions, the procedure is also different. Therefore, perform the correct procedure according to the chart below.
CHECK SOC (Battery State of Charge)
Tech Tips
Make sure the shift lever is in N when adjusting the fluid level. As charge control is not performed at this time, the SOC (Battery State of Charge) value must be 50% or more.
After charging, moving the vehicle depletes the SOC. Therefore, always set the vehicle on a lift before beginning work.
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the power switch on (IG).
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / State of Charge.
Check the Battery State of Charge value.
If the value is 50% or more, proceed to the next step.
If the value is less than 50%, turn the power switch on (READY) and leave the vehicle as is until the battery state of charge value reaches 50% or more.
Tech Tips
Even if the power switch is turned on (READY), the engine may not start and charging will not begin. However, if the battery state of charge value decreases to 42% or less, the engine will start and charging will begin.
Turn the power switch off.
FILL TRANSMISSION
Note
Fill with ATF while the transmission is at normal operating temperature.
After filling ATF, adjust the fluid level.
Lift the vehicle up while keeping the vehicle level.
w/ Cover:
Remove the 3 screws, 2 bolts, clip and front center floor cover.
Remove the overflow plug.
Disconnect the oil cooler hose.
CAUTION:
Do not touch any high temperature parts, such as the exhaust pipe.
Tech Tips
Cover the pipe that the oil cooler hose connects to with a plastic bag or tape to prevent fluid from dripping.
| *1 | Overflow Tube |
Add fluid to the disconnected oil cooler hose until fluid comes out of the overflow tube.
Reinstall the overflow plug.
Tech Tips
The overflow plug will be removed again later. Therefore, reuse the gasket at this step.
Add 1.1 liters (1.2 US qts, 1.0 Imp qts.) of ATF to the disconnected oil cooler hose.
Connect the oil cooler hose.
Note
Be sure to adjust the fluid level after adding fluid.
CHECK VEHICLE CONDITION

Turn the power switch on (READY).
Note
Check that electrical systems such as the air conditioning system, audio system and lighting system are off.
Check the Line Pressure and T/M Oil Temperature.
Note
Before adjusting the fluid amount, make sure that Line Pressure is OFF with the power switch on (READY).
If Line Pressure is ON, the fluid amount cannot be adjusted accurately.
If Line Pressure is still ON even after the power switch has been turned on (READY), troubleshoot the system in accordance with the output DTC. Adjust the fluid amount only after making sure that Line Pressure is OFF.
Allow the engine to idle until the fluid temperature reaches 30°C (86°F).
Tech Tips
The fluid temperature should be less than 40°C (104°F) before starting the hybrid system.
After adjusting the fluid amount, make sure that Line Pressure remains OFF with the power switch on (READY).

Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Connect the TC and TE1, with T/M Oil Temperature, State of Charge, Line Pressure and Engine Spd displayed on the tester.
Check the Battery State of Charge value.
If the Battery State of Charge value is less than 50%, return to the "Check SOC" procedure and perform charge again.
Check the transmission fluid temperature.
If the value is below 35°C (95°F), proceed to "Change to Fluid Temperature Detection Mode and Warm Up ATF".
If the fluid temperature is 35 to 40°C (95 to 104°F), proceed to "Adjust Fluid Level".
Tech Tips
If the value is higher than 40°C (104°F), leave the vehicle as is until the fluid temperature is 40°C (104°F) or less, and then preform "Check Vehicle Condition" again.
