Tech Tips

Read the freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. In the freeze frame data, some information is recorded about the engine conditions at the moment a malfunction occurred. This information can be helpful when troubleshooting.

PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Select the following menu items: Select: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / T/M Oil Temperature.

    4. Read the data list.

      OK
      Tester Display Condition Tester Display
T/M Oil Temperature Vehicle has been left for 24 hours Approximately equal to ambient temperature

    NG
    OK
  2. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS

    1. Check for intermittent problems Click here.

    OK
    NG
  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR)

    1. A000XH7E01
      *1 Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU

Check the connections of the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors.

      OK
The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG
    OK
  4. CHECK TRANSMISSION WIRE (TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR)

    1. Turn the power switch off.

    2. A000UHJE02
*1 Rear view of wire harness connector: (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)

Disconnect connectors E58 and A76 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E58-33 (THO) - A76-5 (E2) 10°C (50° F) 5.0 to 8.0 kΩ
      E58-33 (THO) - A76-5 (E2) 110°C (230° F) 0.22 to 0.28 kΩ
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
E58-33 (THO) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V

      Note

Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
E58-33 (THO) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
A76-5 (E2) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    NG
    OK
  5. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS

    1. Check for intermittent problems Click here.

    OK
    NG
  6. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (TRANSMISSION WIRE CONNECTOR)

    1. A000TLIE01
      *1 Transmission Wire

Check the connection of the transmission wire connector.

      OK
The connector is connected securely and there are no contact problems.

    NG
    OK
  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU)

    1. A000TR8E01
*1 Front view of wire harness connector: (to Transmission Wire)
*2 Rear view of wire harness connector: (to Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)

      Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
E58-33 (THO) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      A76-5 (E2) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V

      Note

Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    4. Turn the power switch off.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
