BATTERY ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK AUXILIARY BATTERY

    Note

If the auxiliary battery is fully depleted or "READY" does not light up, recharge the auxiliary battery. Check the auxiliary battery again before the vehicle is returned to the customer.

    1. Check the auxiliary battery for damage or deformation.

If there is damage, deformation or leakage, replace the auxiliary battery.

    2. Eliminate any surface charge.

      1. Drive the vehicle, and stop the engine.

      2. Within 20 seconds after the engine is stopped, turn the power switch ON, and turn on electrical systems (the headlights, blower motor and rear window defogger, etc.).

    3. Turn the power switch OFF, and turn off the electrical systems.

    4. Wait 20 minutes, and then measure the auxiliary battery voltage.

      1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard voltage
        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        Positive (+) terminal - Negative (-) terminal 20°C (68°F) 12.5 to 12.9 V

        Tech Tips

If the voltage is not as specified, charge the auxiliary battery.

  2. CHECK AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL AND FUSE

    1. Visually check the auxiliary battery terminals.

      1. Check that the auxiliary battery terminals are not loose or corroded.

    2. Check the H-fuses, M-fuses and fuses.

      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance
        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        H-fuses Always Below 1 Ω
        M-fuses
        Fuses

If the results are not as specified, replace the H-fuses, M-fuses and fuses as necessary.
