WIPER SWITCH INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/ Rain Sensor)

   
   

   1. for LHD Windshield Wiper Switch and RHD Windshield Wiper Switch RH Side Type:

      
      
      1. 

         *1	Windshield Wiper Switch Assembly (Adjusting Ring Position)
         *a	Component without harness connected (Windshield Wiper Switch Assembly)

         Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

         Standard Resistance
         Front Wiper Switch Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-2 (+B1) - G42-3 (+1) MIST Below 1 Ω G42-3 (+1) - G42-1 (+S) OFF G42-8 (AUTO) - G42-9 (E) AUTO G42-3 (+1) - G42-1 (+S) G42-2 (+B1) - G42-3 (+1) LO G42-2 (+B1) - G42-4 (+2) HI
         Front Washer Switch Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-10 (+B2) - G42-5 (WR) G43-7 (WF) - G43-4 (EW) ON Below 1 Ω OFF 10 kΩ or higher
         Adjustring Ring Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-6 (VR2) - G42-7 (VR1) P1 209 to 231 Ω P2 114 to 126 Ω P3 58.9 to 65.1 Ω P4 Below 1 Ω
         Rear Wiper Switch Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G43-2 (C1R) - G43-4 (EW) G43-3 (+1R) - G43-4 (EW) OFF 10 kΩ or higher G43-2 (C1R) - G43-4 (EW) INT Below 1 Ω G43-3 (+1R) - G43-4 (EW) ON
         Rear Washer Switch Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-10 (+B2) - G43-7 (WF) G42-5 (WR) - G43-4 (EW) OFF 10 kΩ or higher ON Below 1 Ω

         If the result is not as specified, replace the windshield wiper switch assembly.

   2. for RHD Windshield Wiper Switch LH Side Type:

      
      
      1. 

         *1	Windshield Wiper Switch Assembly (Adjusting Ring Position)
         *a	Component without harness connected (Windshield Wiper Switch Assembly)

         Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

         Standard Resistance
         Front Wiper Switch Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-2 (+1) - G42-3 (+B) MIST Below 1 Ω G42-2 (+1) - G42-4 (+S) OFF G42-7 (AUTO) - G42-6 (E) G42-2 (+1) - G42-4 (+S) AUTO G42-3 (+B) - G42-2 (+1) LO G42-3 (+B) - G42-1 (+2) HI

         Rear Washer Switch Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-5 (+B2) - G43-4 (WF) G42-10 (WR) - G43-7 (EW) OFF 10 kΩ or higher ON Below 1 Ω

         If the result is not as specified, replace the windshield wiper switch assembly.

2. INSPECT WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/o Rain Sensor)

   
   

   1. for LHD Windshield Wiper Switch and RHD Windshield Wiper Switch RH Side Type:

      
      
      1. 

         *a	Component without harness connected (Windshield Wiper Switch Assembly)

         Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

         Standard Resistance
         Front Wiper Switch Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-2 (+B1) - G42-3 (+1) MIST Below 1 Ω G42-1 (+S) - G42-3 (+1) OFF G42-1 (+S) - G42-3 (+1) INT G42-2 (+B1) - G42-3 (+1) LO G42-2 (+B1) - G42-4 (+2) HI
         Front Washer Switch
         Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-10 (+B2) - G42-5 (WR) G43-7 (WF) - G43-4 (EW) ON Below 1 Ω OFF 10 kΩ or higher
         Rear Wiper Switch
         Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G43-2 (C1R) - G43-4 (EW) G43-3 (+1R) - G43-4 (EW) OFF 10 kΩ or higher G43-2 (C1R) - G43-4 (EW) INT Below 1 Ω G43-3 (+1R) - G43-4 (EW) HI Below 1 Ω
         Rear Washer Switch
         Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-10 (+B2) - G43-7 (WF) G42-5 (WR) - G43-4 (EW) OFF 10 kΩ or higher ON Below 1 Ω

         If the result is not as specified, replace the windshield wiper switch assembly.

      2. Check the intermittent operation.

         
         

         1. Connect a voltmeter positive (+) lead to terminal G42-3 (+1) and a negative (-) lead to terminal G43-4 (EW).

         2. Turn the wiper switch to the INT position.

         3. Operate the intermittent wiper and check the voltage between terminals G42-3 (+1) and G43-4 (EW).

            OK
            Voltage changes as shown in the illustration.

            

            *a	Voltage between terminals G42-3 (+1) and G43-4 (EW)	*b	Wiper Operation
            *c	1.6 +/- 1 second	*d	10.7 +/- 5 seconds

            If the result is not as specified, replace the windshield wiper switch assembly.

      3. Check the front washer operation.

         
         

         1. Connect a voltmeter positive (+) lead to terminal G43-7 (WF) and a negative (-) lead to terminal G43-4 (EW).

         2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

         3. Turn the washer switch on and off, and check the voltage between terminals G43-7 (WF) and G43-4 (EW).

            OK
            Voltage changes as shown in the following illustration.

            

            *a	Washer Switch	*b	Voltage between terminals G43-7 (WF) and G43-4 (EW)
            *c	Approximately 0.5 seconds	*d	Approximately 2.2 seconds

            If the result is not as specified, replace the windshield wiper switch assembly.

   2. for RHD Windshield Wiper Switch LH Side Type:

      
      
      1. 

         *a	Component without harness connected (Windshield Wiper Switch Assembly)

         Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

         Standard Resistance
         Front Wiper Switch Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-4 (+S) - G42-2 (+1) OFF Below 1 Ω G42-4 (+S) - G42-2 (+1) INT G42-3 (+B1) - G42-2 (+1) MIST G42-3 (+B1) - G42-2 (+1) LO G42-3 (+B1) - G42-1 (+2) HI
         Front Washer Switch

         Rear Wiper Switch
         Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G43-2 (C1R) - G43-7 (EW) G43-1 (+1R) - G43-7 (EW) OFF 10 kΩ or higher G43-2 (C1R) - G43-7 (EW) INT Below 1 Ω G43-1 (+1R) - G43-7 (EW) HI Below 1 Ω
         Rear Washer Switch
         Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition G42-5 (+B2) - G43-4 (WF) ON Below 1 Ω G42-10 (WR) - G43-7 (EW) OFF 10 kΩ or higher

         If the result is not as specified, replace the windshield wiper switch assembly.

      2. Check the intermittent operation.

         
         

         1. Connect a voltmeter positive (+) lead to terminal G42-2 (+1) and a negative (-) lead to terminal G43-7 (EW).

         2. Turn the wiper switch to the INT position.

         3. Operate the intermittent wiper and check the voltage between terminals G42-2 (+1) and G43-7 (EW).

            OK
            Voltage changes as shown in the illustration.

            

            *a	Voltage between terminals G42-2 (+1) and G43-7 (EW)	*b	Wiper Operation
            *c	1.6 +/- 1 second	*d	10.7 +/- 5 seconds

            If the result is not as specified, replace the windshield wiper switch assembly.

      3. Check the front washer operation.

         
         

         1. Connect a voltmeter positive (+) lead to terminal G43-4 (WF) and a negative (-) lead to terminal G43-7 (EW).

         2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

         3. Turn the washer switch on and off, and check the voltage between terminals G43-4 (WF) and G43-7 (EW).

            OK
            Voltage changes as shown in the following illustration.

            

            *a	Washer Switch	*b	Voltage between terminals G43-4 (WF) and G43-7 (EW)
            *c	Approximately 0.5 seconds	*d	Approximately 2.2 seconds

            If the result is not as specified, replace the windshield wiper switch assembly.
