P161A LIN Communication Error with Alternator

DESCRIPTION

The ECM and generator assembly each detect reception malfunctions. A generator assembly reception malfunction detected by the generator assembly is sent to the ECM via LIN communication. If there is a malfunction in either the ECM or generator assembly, the ECM determines that there is a LIN communication malfunction and outputs a DTC.

When the ECM cannot receive LIN communication, the generator assembly cannot receive LIN communication for approximately 17 minutes or more

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM


    1. Check the charging system Click here.


    NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE CHARGING SYSTEM

    OK

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - GENERATOR ASSEMBLY)


    1. Disconnect the C152 ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the C157 generator assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C152-7 (LIN) - C157-2 (LIN) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C152-7 (LIN) or C157-2 (LIN) - Body ground Engine switch off (while LIN communication is stopped) 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Reconnect the C157 generator assembly connector.

    5. Reconnect the C152 ECM connector.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  3. INSPECT GENERATOR ASSEMBLY


    1. Inspect the generator assembly.
