PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCK INDICATOR LIGHT


    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    2. w/ Combination Switch:

      Press the differential lock switch (combination switch assembly).

      w/o Combination Switch:

      Press the differential lock switch.

    3. Check the rear differential lock indicator light.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      Rear differential lock indicator light blinks or illuminates A
      Rear differential lock indicator light remains off regardless of switch operation B
      Rear differential lock indicator light remains illuminated regardless of switch operation C

      • Blinking: Blinks at 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)

  2. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION LINE


    1. Select "Bus Check" from the System Selection Menu screen, and follow the prompts on the screen to inspect the CAN bus.

      Click here

      OK
      "Bus Check" indicates no malfunctions in CAN communication.

  3. READ VALUE USING GTS (DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SWITCH)


    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Four Wheel Drive / Data List.

    6. According to the display on the GTS, read the Data List

  4. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY


    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Perform an Active Test of the combination meter assembly using the GTS Click here.

    3. Check the combination meter assembly.

      OK
      The rear differential lock indicator light turns on or off in accordance with the GTS.

  5. INSPECT COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY OR DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SWITCH


    1. w/ Combination Switch:

      Remove the differential lock switch (combination switch assembly) Click here.

      w/o Combination Switch:

      Remove the differential lock switch Click here.

    2. w/ Combination Switch:

      Inspect the differential lock switch (combination switch assembly) Click here.

      w/o Combination Switch:

      Inspect the differential lock switch Click here.

      The differential lock switch (combination switch assembly) operates normally.
      w/o Combination Switch:
      The differential lock switch operates normally.

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU - COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY OR DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SWITCH)


    1. Disconnect the G53 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.

    2. w/ Combination Switch:

      Disconnect the G307 differential lock switch (combination switch assembly) connector.

    3. w/o Combination Switch:

      Disconnect the G233 differential lock switch (combination switch assembly) connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      w/ Combination Switch:
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G53-15 (R) - G307-5 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
      G307-2 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      G53-15 (R) or G307-5 (B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      w/o Combination Switch:
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G53-15 (R) - G233-5 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
      G233-2 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Four Wheel Drive / Data List

    6. According to the display on the GTS, read the Data List.

      Rear differential lock indicator light request/

      Blink3, Blink2, Blink1, ON or OFF


      • Blink3: Indicator light rapidly blinks

      • Blink2: Indicator light blinks 3 times

      • Blink1: Indicator light blinks

      • ON: Indicator light illuminates

      • OFF: Indicator light turns off


      • Blinking: 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)

      • Rapidly blinking: 0.25 second intervals (0.25 seconds on and 0.25 seconds off)

    7. w/ Combination Switch:

      Turn the differential lock switch (combination switch assembly) on and off several times and check the GTS display condition of the rear differential lock indicator light.

      w/o Combination Switch:

      Turn the differential lock switch on and off several times and check the GTS display condition of the rear differential lock indicator light.
