DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEM(w/ Differential Lock) SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. INDICATOR LIGHT OPERATION WHEN SWITCHING 4WD DRIVING MODE

    4 Drive Mode (H4F, H4L, L4F or L4L) (for 1GR-FE, 1GD-FTV or 1KD-FTV )
Driving Mode Rear Differential Lock Indicator Light
H4F (Transfer high and center differential free) Not illuminated
H4L (Transfer high and center differential lock) Not illuminated
L4F (Transfer low and center differential free) Not illuminated
L4L (Transfer low and center differential lock) Not illuminated
Center differential Switching between free and lock Not illuminated
Transfer Switching between high and low Not illuminated
Rear Differential* Switching between free and lock Blinking
    Switching complete Illuminated

    • Blinking: Blinks at 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)

    Tech Tips

*:Free ←→ lock switching for the rear differential is possible when the drive mode is L4L.

  2. FUNCTION OF COMPONENTS

    Components Functions

Differential lock switch (combination switch assembly)*1

    Differential lock switch*2

Selects free or lock for the rear differential.
Combination meter assembly Rear differential lock indicator light

Illuminates to inform the user of rear differential lock status.

Blinks to inform the user of switching between free and lock.

Rapidly blinks (during DTC output) to inform the user of a rear differential system malfunction.

Skid control ECU (master cylinder solenoid) Sends wheel speed signals to the 4 wheel drive control ECU via CAN communication.
ECM Sends information such as the shift position signal and engine speed to the 4 wheel drive control ECU via CAN communication.
4 wheel drive control ECU Determines the vehicle status from wheel and engine speed signals received via CAN communication, and according to the operation of the differential lock shift actuator, switches to the requested 4WD drive mode (rear differential free or lock).
Differential lock shift actuator Differential lock shift motor and limit switch Operates the differential lock shift motor according to commands sent from the 4 wheel drive control ECU and switches the driving mode (rear differential free or lock).
Differential lock indicator switch Detects the rear differential lock condition and sends that information to the 4 wheel drive control ECU.

    • *1: w/ Combination Switch

    • *2: w/o Combination Switch

    • Blinking: Blinks at 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)

    • Rapidly blinking: Blinks at 0.25 second intervals (0.25 seconds on and 0.25 seconds off)
