AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

PROCEDURE


  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note


    • After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  3. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  4. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH

    Click here

  5. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL RH

  6. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

    Click here

  7. REMOVE LOWER TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR


    1. Remove the 4 bolts and lower transfer case protector.

  8. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

  9. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  10. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  11. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the nut and clip and disconnect the transmission control cable from the transmission.

  12. DISCONNECT NO. 1 INLET OIL COOLER TUBE AND NO. 1 OUTLET OIL COOLER TUBE


    1. Remove the 3 bolts and open the 3 oil cooler tube clamps.

    2. Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the No. 1 inlet oil cooler tube and No. 1 outlet oil cooler tube from each oil cooler tube union.

  13. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY


    1. for 2.2 kW Type:

      Remove the starter Click here.

    2. for 2.7 kW Type:

      Remove the starter Click here.

    3. for 3.0 kW Type:

      Remove the starter Click here.

  14. REMOVE OIL PAN INSULATOR

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and oil pan insulator.

  15. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

    1. Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the crossmember.

  16. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACKET LH AND RH

      Remove the 8 bolts, front bracket suspension member LH and front bracket suspension member RH.

  17. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 4 bolts of the rear engine mounting insulator.

    2. B001EA6

      Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and frame crossmember.

  18. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine mounting insulator from the transmission.

  19. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT

    1. Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 bolts and remove each bolt while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

      Tech Tips

      If it is difficult to reach the setting bolts with the wrench, raise or lower the transmission jack until there is sufficient space for the wrench.

  20. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

      Tilt the transmission downward.

      Note

      Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.

    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, transmission wire connector, 2 speed sensor connectors and transfer control side connector.

      Tech Tips

      Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    3. Detach the 7 harness clamps and disconnect the wire harness.

  21. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transmission.

      Note

      Do not use excess force to pry on the transmission assembly.

  22. REMOVE WIRING HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET

      Remove the bolt and wiring harness clamp bracket.

  23. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

  24. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and transmission control cable bracket.

  25. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY

  26. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
