PRE-HEATING SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

Turn the engine switch off for 60 seconds before performing the following inspections.

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT ILLUMINATION DURATION OF GLOW INDICATOR LIGHT

    1. A01XEECE03
      Text in Illustration
*a Glow Indicator Light Illumination Time
      *b Engine Coolant Temperature
      *c

When atmospheric pressure is 100 kPa (1.0 kgf/cm2)

Turn the engine switch on (IG) and measure the length of time that the light remains illuminated.

      Light illumination duration
      Refer to the graph

      Tech Tips

Depending on the engine coolant temperature, the indicator light illumination time changes as shown in the illustration.

  2. INSPECT PRE-HEATING FUNCTION

    1. Measure the voltage applied to the glow plug assemblies.

      Standard voltage
      11 to 14 V at 25°C (77°F) or less
    2. Measure the length of time that voltage is applied to the glow plug assemblies while the engine switch on (IG).

      Standard Pre-heating Time
      Condition Pre-heating Time
Battery voltage at 14 V or higher 1 second
Engine coolant temperature 40°C (104°F) or higher 1 second
      Other than above 15 seconds
  3. INSPECT AFTER GLOW

    1. Measure the voltage applied to the glow plug assemblies after the engine is started.

      Standard Voltage
      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Engine coolant temperature 20°C (68°F) or less 11 to 14 V
      Engine coolant temperature 20°C (68°F) to 41°C (106°F) 0 to 14 V
      Engine coolant temperature 41°C (106°F) or higher 0 V

      Tech Tips

The maximum amount of time that voltage is applied to the glow plug assemblies is 20 minutes.
