ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0299

DTC Code DTC Name
P0299 Turbocharger / Supercharger Underboost

DESCRIPTION

Tech Tips

Refer to DTC P0046 Click here.

P0299
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Accelerate vehicle with accelerator depressed halfway or more starting from a speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) or more for 2 minutes (make sure gear is fixed and does not change) The pressure is 55 kPa below the Target Booster Pressure for 40 seconds at an engine speed of 2800 to 4400 rpm (2 trip detection logic)*1 (1 trip detection logic)*2.
  • Turbocharger sub-assembly

  • Extremely low battery voltage (P0560 output simultaneously)

  • Disconnected pipe between turbo and intake manifold

  • Disconnected manifold absolute pressure sensor hose

  • Throttle valve stuck closed

  • Electric EGR control valve assembly does not close

  • Exhaust system or intake system modified (leading to increased pressure loss, etc.)

  • Manifold absolute pressure sensor

  • Injection system (reduction in fuel injection volume)

  • ECM

Tech Tips

  • If DTC P0299 is stored due to the variable nozzle being stuck open, the following symptoms may appear:

    • Lack of power

    • Vehicle surge or hesitation under light or medium load

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

Note

After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (See page ) and initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

Comparison of the data list items manifold absolute pressure and target booster pressure during acceleration under medium to high engine speeds can be used to determine the state of the problem.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0299)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / DTC.

    4. Read the DTCs.

  2. CHECK INTAKE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM

    1. Check for intake and exhaust system modifications.

  3. INSPECT TURBOCHARGER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Check the turbocharger sub-assembly Click here.

      Tech Tips

Check if the VN is stuck, if there are abnormal noises from the turbo (impeller is damaged), if there is turbo shaft rattle, and if the turbo shaft does not rotate smoothly.

    NG
    OK
  4. CHECK CONNECTION OF VACUUM HOSE

    1. Check the vacuum hoses connected to the manifold absolute pressure sensor.

    NG
    OK
  5. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (MAP)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / MAP.

    4. Read the value.

      Standard Value
      Condition Standard Value
      Idling 90 to 102 kPa
      3000 rpm 100 to 150 kPa

    NG
    OK
  6. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (ACTUAL THROTTLE POSITION)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Actual Throttle Position.

    4. Read the value.

      Standard Value
      Condition Specified Condition
Ignition switch ON -5 to 5%
      Idling 0 to 90%

    NG
    OK
  7. INSPECT ELECTRIC EGR CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY

    1. Inspect the electric EGR control valve assembly Click here.

    NG
    OK
  8. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (INJECTION FEEDBACK VAL #1 TO #4)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

    3. Start the engine and warm it up.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Injection Feedback Val #1 to #4.

    5. Read the values.

      Standard Value
The compensatory injection volume is less than 3.0 mm3/st

      Tech Tips

      • If the injector assembly is malfunctioning, the compensatory injection volume remains at 5.0 mm3/st.

      • If there is a disconnection, the feedback value will increase and +5.0 mm3/st will be indicated, because it will become impossible for the injector assembly to inject.

    NG
    OK
  9. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    4. Start the engine and warm it up.

    5. Accelerate the vehicle with the accelerator depressed halfway or more starting from a speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) or more for 2 minutes (make sure the gear is fixed and does not change).

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / DTC / Pending.

    7. Read the DTCs.
