PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT TIMING BELT AND TIMING PULLEY (for 1KD-FTV)

   Tech Tips

   This is for vehicles often used in excessively dusty conditions. Inspect for cracks on the timing belt or abnormal wear on the timing pulley. Then, remove sand and dust in the timing belt cover.

2. REPLACE TIMING BELT

3. CLEAN TIMING BELT COVER (for 1KD-FTV)

   Tech Tips

   This is for vehicles often used in excessively dusty conditions. Inspect for cracks on the timing belt or abnormal wear on the timing pulley. Then, remove sand and dust in the timing belt cover.

   
   

   1. Remove the timing belt cover.

   2. Check that the timing belt cover is not dirty.

   3. If cleaning a timing belt cover, blow compressed air to clean it.

   4. Reinstall the timing belt cover.

6. REPLACE DRIVE BELT (for 5L-E)

9. INSPECT COOLING AND HEATER SYSTEM

   
   

   1. Check that the radiator, condenser and/or intercooler are not blocked with leaves, dirt or insects, and clean them if necessary. Also check the hose connection for the installation condition, corrosion, etc.

10. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT

11. REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT

12. INSPECT OIL COOLER HOSE AND CONNECTIONS (for 1GR-FE, 2TR-FE)

    
    

    1. Check the oil cooler hoses (water by-pass hose) for cracks, leakage, loose connections and deformation.

13. INSPECT VACUUM PUMP OIL HOSE (for 5L-E)

    
    

    1. Check the vacuum pump oil hoses for cracks, leakage, loose connections and deformation.

14. INSPECT EXHAUST PIPES AND MOUNTINGS

    
    

    1. Visually check the pipes, hangers and connections for severe corrosion, leaks or damage.

15. INSPECT AIR CLEANER FILTER

    
    

    1. Remove the air cleaner filter.

    2. Visually check that the air cleaner filter is not excessively damaged or oily.

    3. Replace the air cleaner filter with a new one if necessary.

16. INSPECT AIR CLEANER CASE

    
    

    1. Check if foreign matter has accumulated in the bottom of the air cleaner case. If foreign matter has accumulated in the bottom of the air cleaner case, clean the air cleaner case.

       Note

       When cleaning the air cleaner case, prevent any foreign matter from entering into the engine.

17. INSPECT AIR FLOW METER (for 1KD-FTV, 1GD-FTV)

    
    

    1. Blow air to the sensor intermittently for approximately 30 seconds.

18. INSPECT FUEL TANK CAP GASKET

19. INSPECT FUEL LINES, FUEL LINE CONNECTIONS, FUEL TANK VAPOR VENT SYSTEM HOSES AND FUEL TANK BAND

    
    

    1. Visually check the fuel lines and hoses for cracks, leakage, loose connections and deformation. Also, visually check the tank band for looseness.

20. INSPECT BATTERY ELECTROLYTE LEVEL
