FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT

Tech Tips


  • When replacing the fuel filter element assembly, use TOYOTA genuine parts or equivalent parts.

  • When replacing the fuel filter element assembly, clean the fuel filter cap and remove dirt completely.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE FUEL FILTER ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the 2 connectors.

    2. Slide the 4 clamps and disconnect the fuel hose, No. 1 fuel hose sub-assembly, No. 3 fuel hose and No. 2 fuel hose from the fuel filter assembly.

    3. Remove the 2 nuts and fuel filter assembly.

  2. DRAIN FUEL

      Loosen the fuel filter drain plug and drain the fuel from the fuel filter assembly.

  3. REMOVE FUEL FILTER COVER

      Detach the level warning switch connector clamp from the fuel filter cap.

    2. Remove the bolt, fuel filter cover and fuel filter gasket from the fuel filter element assembly.

  4. REMOVE LEVEL WARNING SWITCH

  5. REMOVE FUEL FILTER ELEMENT ASSEMBLY

      Using SST, remove the fuel filter element assembly.

  6. INSTALL FUEL FILTER ELEMENT ASSEMBLY


    1. Check and clean the installation surface of the fuel filter element assembly.

    2. Apply diesel fuel to the gasket of a new fuel filter element assembly.

      Lightly screw the fuel filter element assembly into place and tighten it until the gasket comes into contact with the seat.

    4. Tighten the fuel filter element assembly an additional 3/4 turn by hand.

  7. INSTALL LEVEL WARNING SWITCH

  8. INSTALL FUEL FILTER COVER


    1. Install the fuel filter gasket and fuel filter cover to the fuel filter element assembly.

    2. Tighten the bolt.

      Torque:
      3.4 N*m  { 35 kgf*cm, 30 in.*lbf }

    3. Attach the level warning switch connector clamp to the fuel filter cap.

  9. INSTALL FUEL FILTER ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the fuel filter assembly with the 2 nuts.

      Torque:
      18 N*m  { 184 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf }

    2. Connect the fuel hose, No. 1 fuel hose sub-assembly, No. 3 fuel hose and No. 2 fuel hose to the fuel filter assembly, and slide the 4 clamps to secure the hoses.

    3. Connect the 2 connectors.
