OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM Trouble in Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator

DESCRIPTION

The occupant classification system detects the front passenger seat condition. It then displays the front passenger airbag and front passenger side knee airbag condition (activated/not activated) using the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.

Tech Tips

Approximately 6 seconds after the power switch is turned on (IG), the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator will indicate ON/OFF depending on the conditions listed below.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT


    1. Turn the power switch on (IG), and check the SRS warning light condition.

      Tech Tips

      If passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator trouble occurs, the SRS warning light does not illuminate. If the light comes on, a DTC is stored. Troubleshoot for the DTC.

      OK
      After the primary check period, the SRS warning light goes off.

      Tech Tips

      The primary check is performed for approximately 6 seconds after the power switch is turned on (IG).

  2. PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION AND SENSITIVITY CHECK


    1. Using the Techstream, perform Zero Point Calibration and Sensitivity Check Click here.

  3. RETIGHTEN FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH BOLT


    1. Loosen the 4 installation bolts of the front seat assembly RH.

    2. Tighten the 4 installation bolts of the front seat assembly RH to the specified torque Click here for Manual Seat, Click here for Power Seat).

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM

      1. Read the display when the passenger side buckle switch is operated.

  6. CHECK CONNECTORS


    1. Turn the power switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    3. Disconnect the connectors from the occupant detection ECU and 2 rear occupant classification sensors.

    4. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

      OK
      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

  7. REPLACE OCCUPANT DETECTION ECU


    1. Connect the connectors to the 2 rear occupant classification sensors.

    2. Replace the occupant detection ECU Click here.

    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    4. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

  10. REPLACE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH


    1. Connect the connector to the occupant detection ECU.

    2. Replace the front seat inner belt assembly RH Click here.

    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
