DESCRIPTION

Tech Tips

"Door side airbag sensor RH" refer to the side airbag sensor RH.

B1638/82

When one of the following conditions is met:


  • The center airbag sensor receives a line short circuit signal, an open circuit signal, a short circuit to ground signal or a short circuit to B+ signal in the circuit for the rear collision sensor LH (to determine deployment of the rear side seat airbag LH and curtain shield airbag LH) for 2 seconds.

  • A rear airbag sensor LH malfunction.

  • A side airbag sensor LH malfunction.

  • A center airbag sensor malfunction.

B1693/81

When one of the following conditions is met:


  • The center airbag sensor receives a line short circuit signal, an open circuit signal, a short circuit to ground signal or a short circuit to B+ signal in the circuit for the side collision sensor RH (to determine deployment of the front seat airbag RH and curtain shield airbag RH) for 2 seconds.

  • A side airbag sensor RH malfunction.

  • A rear airbag sensor RH malfunction.

  • A center airbag sensor malfunction.

  • After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK PAST DTC


    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    2. Check for DTCs Click here.

  2. CHECK FOR DTC


    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

      Tech Tips

      If a communication error occurs, DTCs for both the LH and RH sides will be stored simultaneously. The malfunctioning area can be identified by turning the ignition switch off and then to ON again.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  3. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS


    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and side airbag sensor RH.

      OK
      The connectors are properly connected.

  4. CHECK CONNECTORS


    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and side airbag sensor RH.

    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and side airbag sensor RH side) are not damaged.

      OK
      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

  5. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT


    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      I9-4 (BBR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    4. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 17 (BBR+) and 18 (BBR-) of connector B.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor RH and rear airbag sensor RH.

    2. Check that the connector (on the rear airbag sensor RH side) is not damaged.

  8. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT


    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 2 (BCR+) and 1 (BCR-) of connector E.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor.

    2. Interchange the side airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.

    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    5. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Click here.

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    8. Check for DTCs Click here.

    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    11. Return the side airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

  10. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH


    1. B001ZBHE01
      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor RH
      *2 Side Airbag Sensor RH

      Temporarily replace the rear airbag sensor RH with a new one.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Click here.

    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    7. Check for DTCs Click here.

      OK
      DTC B1693 is not output.

      Tech Tips

      Codes other than DTC B1693 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the ignition switch off.

    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

  11. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - FRONT DOOR WIRE RH)


    1. Disconnect the No. 2 floor wire from the front door wire RH.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

    4. Turn the ignition switch off.

    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 17 (BBR+) and 18 (BBR-) of connector B.

      Note

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Disconnect the front door wire RH from the No. 2 floor wire.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

      Interchange the side airbag sensor LH with LRH and connect the connectors to them.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Click here.

    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    7. Check for DTCs Click here.

    1. Disconnect the floor wire from the front door wire LH.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
