THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM(w/o Entry and Start System) OPERATION CHECK

Tech Tips

If the battery is reconnected during the armed state, the system may enter the alarm sounding state and the alarm may sound. If so, perform a wireless unlock operation to stop the alarm.

  1. OUTLINE OF THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM

    1. When the theft deterrent system detects that the vehicle is being tampered with, the horns sound and the hazard warning lights flash continuously.

    2. The system has a mode called active arming mode (refer to "Active Arming Mode").

    3. Active arming mode has 4 states: disarmed state, arming preparation state, armed state and alarm sounding state.

      1. Disarmed state:

        • The alarm function is not operating.

        • The theft deterrent system is not operating.

      2. Arming preparation state:

        • The theft deterrent system is not operating.

      3. Armed state:

        • The theft deterrent system is operating.

      4. Alarm sounding state:

        • The alarm function is operating (30 +/-2.5 seconds).

        Alarm Method and Time
Alarm Method Hazard Warning Light Blinking (cycle of flasher relay)
Vehicle Horn Sounding (cycle of 0.4 seconds)
Security Horn Sounding (cycle of 0.4 seconds)
        Security Indicator Illuminated
        Alarm Time 30 +/-2.5 seconds

        Tech Tips

If, during the alarm sounding state, one of the doors is unlocked without using a proper key, a forced door lock signal will be output (refer to "Forced Door Lock Control").

  2. ACTIVE ARMING MODE

    Tech Tips

Active arming mode starts alarm control immediately after the doors are locked.

System State State Switching Condition Transfer to
    1. Disarmed state

Perform one of following, and system will go on to "Arming preparation state":

    1. With all doors and engine hood closed, lock all doors by wireless operation.

    2. With all doors and engine hood closed, lock all doors using mechanical key.

    3. With all doors locked and the engine hood closed, any door or the engine hood is opened and then closed.

    1. Unlock all doors by wireless operation.

    2. Unlock all doors using mechanical key.

    3. Unlock door.

    4. Open the engine hood or any doors.

    5. Insert the key* into the ignition key cylinder, and then turn the ignition switch to ACC or ON.

    6. Reconnect battery.

Perform one of following, and system will go on to "Armed state":

    1. Allow 30 (+/-1.5) seconds to elapse.

    3. Armed State

Perform one of following, and system will go on to "Disarmed state":

    1. Unlock all doors by wireless operation.

    2. Unlock all doors using mechanical key.

    3. With the ignition switch turned to ON and the engine having been turned on for 2 seconds, or more.

    4. Insert the key* into the ignition key cylinder, and then turn the ignition switch to ACC or ON.

Perform one of following, and system will go on to "Alarm sounding state":

    1. Open engine hood.

    2. Open door.

    3. Unlock door without using wireless operation.

    4. Unlock door without using mechanical key.

    5. Disconnect and reconnect battery negative (-) cable.

    6. Force engine ignition system to turn on without proper engine start method.

Perform one of following, and system will go on to "Armed state":

    1. Allow 30 (+/-2.5) seconds to elapse.

    3. Armed state (alarm stops sounding)

    Tech Tips

*: Unlock warning switch signal is on.

  3. FORCED DOOR LOCK CONTROL

    1. Forced door lock control also helps to prevent the vehicle from being tampered with. When a door is unlocked and the alarm starts, the door is forced to lock by a forced door lock signal.

      1. Conditions that force the doors to lock:

        • 0.4 seconds have elapsed after the previous output of a forced door lock signal.

        • The theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state of active arming mode.

        • A door is unlocked.

  4. SECURITY INDICATOR OUTPUT

    1. The security indicator turns on and off based on output signals from the main body ECU. However, in some cases, the actual status of the security indicator is different from the output signals of the transponder key ECU assembly.

      Output
State of Theft Deterrent System Security Indicator
Output Signals from ECU Actual Lighting Condition
      Disarmed state Off

      Off (Immobiliser system not set)

      Blinking (Immobiliser system set)

      Arming preparation state On On
      Armed state Off Blinking
      Alarm sounding state On On
      Blinking Cycle
      Time Security Indicator
      0.125 seconds On
      1.875 seconds Off

      Tech Tips

When the immobiliser system is set, the security indicator blinks during the disarmed state and the armed state due to the output signals from the immobiliser system.
