AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY(for 1UR-FE) REMOVAL

PROCEDURE


  1. PRECAUTION

    Note

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  3. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  4. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

  5. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER

    Click here

  6. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER

  7. REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and oil pan protector assembly.

  8. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

  9. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING A

  10. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING C

    Click here

  11. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

    Click here

  12. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the clip and pin and disconnect the gear shifting rod from the transmission control shaft lever RH.

  13. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

  15. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE

  16. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY

  17. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY

  19. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR

  20. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

  21. REMOVE STARTER COVER

  22. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY

  23. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT

      Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 bolts and remove the bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley setting bolt with a wrench.

  24. DISCONNECT NO.2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE (w/ ATF Warmer)

      Remove the bolt and disconnect the 2 water by-pass hoses from the transmission oil cooler. Then disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass pipe from the automatic transmission assembly.

      Note

      Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hoses.

  25. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE (w/ ATF Warmer)

      Disconnect the 2 transmission oil cooler hoses from the transmission oil thermostat.

  26. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE (w/o ATF Warmer)

    1. Disconnect the 2 transmission oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler tube unions.

  27. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

    1. Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the crossmember.

      Note

      Support the oil pan bolts to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket.

  28. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the engine mounting hole cover.

      Remove the 4 bolts of the rear engine mounting insulator.

      Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and No. 3 frame crossmember.

  29. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and engine mounting heat insulator.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine No. 1 mounting insulator from the transmission.

  30. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.

      Tilt the transmission downward.

      Note


      • Support the oil pan bolts to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket.


      • Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.

      Remove the 4 wire harness clamps.

    4. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, 2 transmission wire connectors, 2 speed sensor connectors and 3 transfer control connectors.

      Tech Tips

      Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    5. Detach the 4 connector clamps and 11 harness clamps.

  31. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 10 bolts and transmission.

      Note

      Do not use excess force to pry off the transmission assembly.

  32. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY (w/ ATF Warmer)

      Remove the 3 bolts and transmission oil cooler assembly with transmission oil thermostat.

    2. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler assembly from the transmission oil thermostat.

    3. Remove the 2 O-rings from the transmission oil cooler assembly.

    4. Remove the 2 O-rings from the transmission oil thermostat.

  33. DISCONNECT TRANSFER BREATHER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the 2 breather plug hoses from the harness clamp bracket.

      Detach the 3 breather hose clamps from the automatic transmission breather tube.

  34. REMOVE LOWER TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR

      Detach the clamp of the ground cable from the lower transfer case protector.

    2. Remove the 7 bolts and lower transfer case protector.

  35. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 8 bolts and 8 harness clamp brackets.
