U0101 Lost Communication with TCM

DESCRIPTION

The engine control unit and the transmission control unit are located inside the ECM. The engine control unit intercommunicates with the transmission control unit with the Controller Area Network (CAN). If there is a problem in this intercommunication, the ECM stores a DTC.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0101)


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read the DTCs using the tester.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      Only U0101 is output A
      U0101 and other DTCs are output B

      Tech Tips

      If any other codes besides U0101 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

    1. Clear the DTC Click here.

    2. Start the engine.

    3. Read the DTCs using the tester.
