SFI SYSTEM Starter Signal Circuit

DESCRIPTION

While the engine is being cranked, current flows from terminal STAR of the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) to the park/neutral position switch assembly and to terminal STA of the ECM (STA signal).

  1. CHECK WHETHER ENGINE CAN BE CRANKED


    1. Check if the engine can be cranked.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS (STARTER SIGNAL)


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.

    5. Check the value displayed on the GTS when the engine switch is turned to the START.

      OK

  3. INSPECT STARTER RELAY (ST)

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - STARTER)


    1. Remove the starter relay (ST) from the engine room relay block.

    2. Disconnect the starter connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay (3) - D2-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      ST relay (3) or D2-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - STARTER)


    1. Disconnect the starter assembly connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      D21-1 - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - BODY GROUND)


    1. Remove the starter relay (ST) from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      ST relay (1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - PNP SWITCH, SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY)


    1. Remove the starter relay (ST) from the engine room relay block.

    2. Disconnect the PNP switch connector.

    3. Disconnect the smart key ECU assembly connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay (2) - E128-12 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
      ST relay (2) - C24-5 Always Below 1 Ω
      ST relay (2) or E128-12 (STA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      ST relay (2) - C24-5 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PNP SWITCH - ECM, SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY)


    1. Disconnect the smart key ECU assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the PNP switch connector.

    3. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (for RHD)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C24-4 - E128-10 (STAR) Always Below 1 Ω
      C46-120 (NSW) - E128-10 (STAR) Always Below 1 Ω
