DESCRIPTION

The battery supplies electricity to the ECM even when the engine switch is off. This power allows the ECM to store data such as DTC history, freeze frame data and fuel trim values. If the battery voltage falls below a minimum level, the memory is cleared and the ECM determines that there is a malfunction in the power supply circuit. When the engine is next started, the ECM illuminates the MIL and stores the DTC.

Tech Tips

If DTC P0560 is stored, the ECM does not store other DTCs and the data stored in the ECM is partly cleared.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BATTERY)


    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the positive (+) battery terminal.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      for RHD
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A52-1 (BATT) - Battery positive (+) terminal Always Below 1 Ω
      A52-1 (BATT) or Battery positive (+) terminal - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      for LHD
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A38-1 (BATT) - Battery positive (+) terminal Always Below 1 Ω
      A38-1 (BATT) or Battery positive (+) terminal - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  4. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Clear DTCs Click here.

    5. Turn the engine switch off.

    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

    7. Wait 5 seconds or more.

    8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    9. Read DTCs.
