PROCEDURE
CHECK ILLUMINATION TIME OF GLOW INDICATOR LIGHT
Check the light illumination duration.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and measure the light illumination time.
| Light illumination time |
|---|
| See graph. |
| *A | w/ DPF | *B | w/o DPF |
| *1 | Seconds | *2 | Engine Coolant Temperature °C (°F) |
| *3 | Light Illumination Time | - | - |
If the result is not as specified, check the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plug assembly and glow relay.
Tech Tips
Actual light illumination duration may vary slightly from the graph.
Turn the ignition switch off.
CHECK PRE-HEATING
Inspect the pre-heating time.
Turn the ignition switch to ON. Measure how long it takes for the battery voltage to be applied to the glow plugs.

Tech Tips
*: The pre-heating time changes depending on the battery voltage.
| *1 | Seconds | *2 | Battery Voltage (V) |
| *3 | After Glow Time | - | - |
If the result is not as specified, check the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plug assembly and glow relay.
Turn the ignition switch off.
CHECK AFTER GLOW TIME
| *1 | No. 2 Glow Relay (GLOW NO. 2) |
| *2 | No. 1 Glow Relay (GLOW NO. 1) |
| *3 | Engine Room Relay Block |
Remove the No. 1 glow relay (GLOW NO. 1) from the engine room relay block.
Remove the No. 2 glow relay (GLOW NO. 2) from the engine room relay block.
After the engine starts, measure the time duration that battery voltage remains present.
