BACK DOOR GLASS INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS ADHESIVE DAM


    1. Apply Primer G to the installation part of the back door glass adhesive dam.

      Tech Tips

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with a non-residue solvent before it dries.

      Install 4 new back door glass adhesive dams onto the back door glass as shown in the illustration.

      Note


      • Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      • Throw away any leftover primer.

      • Do not apply too much primer.

  2. INSTALL BACK WINDOW LOWER MOULDING


    1. Apply Primer G to the installation part of the back window lower moulding.

      Tech Tips

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with a non-residue solvent before it dries.

      Install a new back window lower moulding onto the back door glass as shown in the illustration.

      a 0 to 3.0 mm (0 to 0.118 in.)
      b 4.8 to 6.4 mm (0.189 to 0.252 in.)

      Note


      • Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      • Throw away any leftover primer.

      • Do not apply too much primer.

  3. INSTALL BACK WINDOW OUTSIDE MOULDING LH


    1. Apply Primer G to the installation part of the back window outside moulding LH.

      Tech Tips

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with a non-residue solvent before it dries.

      c 9.7 to 12.7 mm (0.382 to 0.500 in.)

      Note


      • Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      • Throw away any leftover primer.

      • Do not apply too much primer.

  4. INSTALL BACK WINDOW OUTSIDE MOULDING RH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  5. INSTALL NO. 1 BACK WINDOW GLASS SPACER


    1. Apply Primer G to the installation part of the No. 1 back window glass spacer.

      Tech Tips

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with a non-residue solvent before it dries.

  6. INSTALL NO. 2 BACK WINDOW GLASS SPACER


    1. Apply Primer G to the installation part of the No. 2 back window glass spacer.

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with a non-residue solvent before it dries.

      Install a new No. 2 back window glass spacer onto the back door glass as shown in the illustration.

  7. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Using a brush, coat the installation surface on the vehicle body with Primer M.

      Note


      • Do not coat the adhesive with Primer M.

      • Do not apply too much primer.

      • Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      • Throw away any leftover primer.

      Tech Tips

      If an area other than that specified is coated by accident, wipe off the primer with a clean piece of cloth before it dries.

    2. Using a brush or a sponge, coat the application area of the adhesive with Primer G.

    3. Apply adhesive to the back door glass.

      Toyota Genuine Windshield Glass Adhesive or equivalent

        Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle as shown in the illustration.

        Tech Tips

        After cutting off the tip, use all the adhesive within the time described in the table below.

      2. Load the sealer gun with the cartridge.

      3. Apply adhesive to the back door glass as shown in the illustration.

    4. Install the back door glass.

        *1 Matchmark

        Position the back door glass so that the matchmarks are aligned, and press it in gently along the rim (when glass without a clip is used).

      2. Lightly press the back door glass to ensure that the back door glass is securely fit to the vehicle body (when glass without a clip is used).

        Tech Tips

        Press the glass with a force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) or more.

      3. A004XQ7

        Using suction cups, engage the 2 clips to install the back door glass (when glass with all clips is used).

        Note


        • Check that the clips are attached to the vehicle body correctly.

        • Check the clearance between the vehicle body and back door glass.

      4. Lightly press the front surface of the back door glass to ensure that the back door glass is securely fit to the vehicle body.

        Tech Tips

        Press the back door glass with a force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) or more.

        Using a scraper, remove any excess or protruding adhesive.

        Tech Tips

        Apply adhesive onto the back door glass rim.

      6. Hold the back door glass using protective tape until applied adhesive becomes hard.

        Note

        Do not drive the vehicle within the time described in the table below.

    5. Engage the 2 clamps.

    6. Connect each connector.

  13. INSPECT FOR LEAK AND REPAIR


    1. After the adhesive has hardened, apply water from the outside of the vehicle. Check that no water leaks into the cabin.

    2. If water leaks into the cabin, allow the water to dry and add adhesive.

    3. Remove the protective tape.
