REAR AXLE HUB BOLT REPLACEMENT

Note

When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1214 may be output. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTC.

  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. PRECAUTION

    Note

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.

  2. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL

  3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  4. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

  5. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH (for LHD)

    Click here

  6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH (for LHD)

    Click here

  7. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

  8. LOOSEN PARKING BRAKE CABLE (for LHD)

    Click here

  9. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

  10. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

    Click here

  11. LOOSEN PARKING BRAKE CABLE (for RHD)

  12. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE LEVER PROTECTOR

  13. DISCONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

  14. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY

      Remove the bolt, and separate the rear flexible hose from the No. 2 flexible hose bracket.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

      Note

      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

  15. REMOVE REAR DISC

  16. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB BOLT

      *1 Nut

      Temporarily install 2 nuts to the rear axle hub bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Recommended service nut
      Thread diameter: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
      Thread pitch: 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.)

      Note

      Install the nuts to prevent damage to the hub bolts.

    2. Using SST and a screwdriver or an equivalent tool to hold the rear axle hub and bearing assembly, remove the rear axle hub bolt.

      SST
      09611-12010

      Note

      Do not damage the threads of the rear axle hub bolts.

  17. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB BOLT

      *1 Nut
      *2 Washer

      Temporarily install a new rear axle hub bolt to the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

    2. Install a washer and nut to the new rear axle hub bolt as shown in the illustration.

      Recommended service nut
      Thread diameter: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
      Thread pitch: 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.)

      Tech Tips

      Recommended thickness of the washer is 5 mm (0.197 in.) or more.

    3. Using a screwdriver or an equivalent tool to hold the rear axle hub and bearing assembly, install the rear axle hub bolt by tightening the nut.

      Note


      • Install the nuts to prevent damage to the rear axle hub bolts.

      • Do not damage the threads of the rear axle hub bolts.

    4. Remove the 3 nuts and washer from the 3 rear axle hub bolts.

  18. INSTALL REAR DISC

  19. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      57 N*m  { 585 kgf*cm, 42 ft.*lbf }
    2. Install the rear flexible hose to the No. 2 flexible hose bracket with the bolt.

      Torque:
      19 N*m  { 192 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf }
  20. CONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

  21. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE LEVER PROTECTOR

  22. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE

    Click here

  23. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

    Torque:
    103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
  30. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL


    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.


    2. Connect the reservoir level switch connector.

    3. Clear the DTCs Click here.
