GENERAL
The luggage compartment door can be opened by pressing a luggage door opening switch assembly of the instrument panel or the rear license garnish, or the luggage compartment door opener switch of the key.
In addition, a power trunk closer switch has been provided on the inner side of the luggage compartment door. By using this switch, the luggage compartment door can be closed automatically.
The luggage closer motor with a power trunk lid ECU has been installed near a luggage compartment door hinge LH. The luggage closer motor opens and closes the luggage compartment door.
This system is controlled by the power trunk lid ECU.
FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS
| Components | Function |
|---|---|
| Power Trunk Lid ECU | Controls the power trunk lid system in accordance with the signals received from the switches and ECUs. |
| Power Trunk Lid Motor | Opens and closes the luggage compartment door when actuated by the power trunk lid ECU. |
| Magnetic Clutch | Transmits the rotation of the power trunk lid motor to the driven gear. |
| Hall IC | Detects the luggage compartment door position and the opening and closing speed of the luggage compartment door. |
| Luggage Compartment Door Closer |
|
| Closer Motor | Locks and unlocks the latch of the luggage compartment door closer when actuated by the power trunk lid ECU. |
|
Detects whether the luggage compartment door is opened or closed. This switch turns ON when the luggage compartment door is opened or ajar and OFF when the luggage compartment door is closed. |
| Closer Motor Position Switch | Detects the initial (neutral) position of the driven gear of the closer motor. The switch is off when the luggage compartment door closer operates to the open side, and on when it operates to the closed side. |
| Pawl Switch | Detects the pawl switch condition. |
| Half Latch Switch | Detects the ajar position of the latch, turns on in the open latch condition. |
| Warning Buzzer | The buzzer sounds twice, during the luggage compartment door automatic close operation. |
| Luggage Door Opening Cancel Switch | Setting this switch to OFF condition prohibits open operation. |

| Luggage Electrical Key Switch |
|
| No. 1 Meter ECU Sub-assembly | The meter ECU transmits vehicle speed signal to the power trunk lid ECU via the CAN. |
| ECM | The ECM transmits shift position P signal to the power trunk lid ECU via the CAN. |
2-STEP CLOSER OPERATION
In order to notify the user that the closer operation will begin and to prevent a person's fingers from being pinched, the closer operation stops momentarily after activation to provide time to move your hands away from the luggage compartment door (the system attempts to leave a space of 9 mm (0.354 in.) or more when stopping momentarily).
The following operations are related to the 2-step closer operation:
When the pawl switch (PAWL) turns off (the closer motor is in the half-latch position) or when the half-latch switch (HALF) turns off, the closer motor is activated.
Tech Tips
There is a delay time from when the switch status is recognized until the closer motor is activated. The delay time is 500 milliseconds when the luggage compartment door is closed by hand and 10 milliseconds when a power trunk lid operation is performed. The delay time count is continuous until the closer motor activates.
When the pawl switch (PAWL) turns from off to on (the transition from *1 to *2 in the illustration), there is a 1 second momentary stop.
When the position switch (LOPN) turns off after the closer motor reactivates, the closer motor stops (close completion).
If the pawl switch (PAWL) is on (off is skipped) and the half-latch switch (HALF) is off, the closer motor does not stop momentarily after activation and continues operating until the luggage compartment door is completely closed.
If the luggage compartment door is closed during the delay time (the time before the pawl switch (PAWL) turns off after the pawl switch (PAWL) turns on and the half-latch switch turns off), there is a momentary stop when the pawl switch (PAWL) turns on after the closer motor activates.
Any other operations not described above operate in the same way as during normal operation.
