DTCs can be detected more sensitively in check mode than in normal diagnosis mode.
Perform check mode inspection when a malfunction in each squib circuit is suspected even after the normal system code is output through normal diagnosis mode inspection.
CHECK MODE PROCEDURE (for Using an Intelligent Tester)
Check and ensure the following conditions:
Battery positive voltage 11 V or more.
Throttle valve fully closed.
Transmission in the P or N positions.
A/C switch OFF.
Turn the engine switch off.
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Turn the tester ON.
Switch the ECM from normal mode.
Make sure the MIL flashes as shown in the illustration.
Start the engine.
Make sure the MIL turns off.
Simulate the conditions of the malfunction described by the customer.
Select the following menu items: Body / SRS Airbag / Utility / Signal Check / *.
Tech Tips
*: Follow the directions on the tester screen.
Check DTCs and freeze frame data using the tester.
