PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Note
After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work Click here.
COMMUNICATION FUNCTION RESTRAINT OPERATION
Precautions for vehicle enrolled in telematics system
Note
Set the vehicle to "Communication function restraint" before performing inspections and repairs such as the removal and installation of parts, simulation tests, confirmation driving patterns, etc., which output warning displays and DTCs so that the G-BOOK center will not incorrectly recognize the output warnings and DTCs. Doing so also prevents the delivery of vehicle status alerts emails to customers according to vehicle operations performed and the vehicle status while at the workshop, and the updating of the vehicle status which can be checked via the vehicle status report function.
Communication function restraint mode can be entered by using the GTS or operating the multi-display.
Communication function restraint method
Communication function restraint
Tech Tips
When a warning is generated by a vehicle malfunction, the warning notification function sends a warning display signal from the combination meter assembly to the G-BOOK center via the G-BOOK onboard device.
Updates to the vehicle status, which can be checked by the delivery of vehicle status alerts emails and the vehicle status report, are based on the vehicle status sent to the G-BOOK center once a fixed amount of time elapses after completing vehicle device operations such as turning the engine switch off.
Immediately after entering communication function restraint mode using the GTS or when starting the navigation system by turning the engine switch from off to on (ACC), the communication function restraint mode can be canceled/ resumed from the displayed communication function suspension screen.
Communication function restraint setting method (Using the multi-display)
Enter diagnostic mode of navigation system Click here.
Once the above operation(s) are performed, the telematics system enters communication function restraint mode.
Communication function restraint setting method (Using the GTS)
Turn the engine switch off.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Start the engine.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
Once the above operation(s) are performed, the telematics system enters communication function restraint mode.
STRICT PROHIBITION OF MANUAL EMERGENCY CALL USING EMERGENCY CALL SERVICE
Do not make an emergency call when not in emergency situations. For inspections, use the manual maintenance check.
Note
If the emergency call service is used to connect to the G-BOOK center when not in an emergency situation, an unnecessary workload will be generated at the G-BOOK center. This may cause a delayed response by the G-BOOK center to other emergency calls.
If emergency vehicles are dispatched due to an accidental operation of the emergency call switch, you may be charged or punished according to related laws.
If the emergency call switch is accidentally operated;
If the emergency call switch is accidentally operated, contact the G-BOOK center to tell them that the call was made by mistake.
An emergency call cannot be halted or finished from the vehicle. Only the G-BOOK center can halt or finish the call.
If the G-BOOK center cannot be informed that the call was made by mistake, the center will report to authorities, emergency facilities and dealerships in compliance with its agreements. As a result, emergency vehicles may be dispatched.
PRECAUTION FOR G-BOOK
If replacing any of the following parts, refer to Initialization of Repair Instruction Click here.
Telematics transceiver
Multi-media module receiver assembly
When replacing the multi-media module receiver assembly, it is not necessary to cancel the G-BOOK contract. (If canceled a new G-BOOK contract needs to be created after replacement.)
On this model, the multi-media module receiver assembly functions as the G-BOOK device and has the G-BOOK ID.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER (DATA COMMUNICATION MODULE [DCM])
The telematics transceiver uses a CDMA2000 1X type radio wave signal. The radio wave signals and communication lines may occasionally be unstable depending on time or location factors. Therefore, network access errors may occur intermittently because of radio wave signal conditions. To determine if there is a problem, it may be necessary to make a judgment based on the frequency of the phenomenon or by making a comparison with a comparable type of cell phone.
The multi-media module receiver assembly and the telematics transceiver have a one-to-one relationship on the registered telematics system. Therefore, if the multi-media module receiver assembly or telematics transceiver is replaced, the network cannot be accessed unless vehicle contract setting is performed. Use of a substitute component is also not possible to confirm network access.
Disassembly of the telematics transceiver is not permitted (the case cannot be opened). If the telematics transceiver malfunctions, replace it.
PRECAUTION FOR EMERGENCY CALL SERVICE
Depending on the troubleshooting method, a manual maintenance check may be performed.
Tech Tips
Communication charges are not incurred for the manual maintenance check because the telematics transceiver is used for communication (the communication cost is included in the G-BOOK cost).
The telematics transceiver functions as the emergency call service device and it has the mayday ID.
AUTOMATIC MAINTENANCE CHECK FOR EMERGENCY CALL SERVICE
The emergency call system regularly performs an automatic maintenance check and communication test with the G-BOOK center so that the emergency call service can always function correctly. There are no operations required to initiate an automatic maintenance check. The automatic maintenance check is performed as follows:
Tech Tips
The automatic maintenance check ends 1 to 2 minutes after it starts.
During the automatic maintenance check, a telephone call or network access is not possible using the telematics system. In this case, wait several minutes before trying again.
If communication is interrupted for some reason after the automatic maintenance check has started, the automatic maintenance check will resume the next time the engine switch is turned on (ACC).
There are no communication charges incurred for the manual and automatic maintenance check because the telematics transceiver is used for communication (the communication cost is included in the G-BOOK cost).
IF AN EMERGENCY CALL CANNOT BE MADE
The emergency call service may not be available, or its quality may deteriorate in the following cases. (For details, refer to the terms of service and operation manual for the device.)
| Cause | Details |
|---|---|
| Communication is interrupted due to malfunctions in the G-BOOK device or any other related device. | The G-BOOK device does not operate normally, such as when the device is damaged or malfunctioning due to an impact caused by a collision. |
| Communication is interrupted due to a G-BOOK center system error. |
|
| Communication is interrupted due to the network used for the emergency call system.* |
|
| The G-BOOK center system cannot determine the vehicle location. |
|
| Others |
|
Note
*: Even when the vehicle is within the cellular phone service area, it may be difficult to make emergency or phone calls due to radio wave signal conditions or busy lines. In this case, it may not be possible to access the G-BOOK center. As a result, no calls can be made to ask for rescue in the event of a traffic accident. If emergency calls cannot be made, use a landline telephone or cellular phone.
LISTINGS FOR EACH FUNCTION
A representative example is listed for each function. Refer to a dealer for unlisted functions.
PRECAUTION FOR TROUBLESHOOTING REMOTE SERVICE FUNCTION
When troubleshooting symptoms such as when part of the remote service function does not operate normally, first check that there are no third party parts connected to the DLC3. If any such parts are connected to the DLC3, some parts of the remote service function may not operate normally.
Therefore, explain the situation to the customer and remove the parts.
