СИСТЕМА ECD, Diagnostic DTC:P0489, P0490

DTC Code DTC Name
P0489 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit Low
P0490 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit High

DESCRIPTION

The EGR actuator is operated by the ECM and opens and closes the EGR valve using gears. The opening angle of the EGR valve is detected by the EGR position sensor, which is mounted on the electric EGR control valve assembly.

P0489
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Idle the engine for 5 seconds or more

Both of the following conditions are met for 2.0 seconds:

(1 trip detection logic)

  • The EGR actuator duty cycle is 80% or higher.

  • EGR actuator current is below 0.5 A.

  • Open or short in EGR actuator circuit

  • Electric EGR control valve assembly

  • ECM

P0490
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Idle the engine for 5 seconds or more

An EGR actuator current of 8 A or higher or the ECM internal circuit temperature of 150 to 160°C (302 to 320°F) or higher is detected.

(1 trip detection logic)

  • Open or short in EGR actuator circuit

  • Electric EGR control valve assembly

  • ECM

After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration Click here and initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE
