СИСТЕМА ECD, Diagnostic DTC:P0405, P0406

DTC Code DTC Name
P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "A" Circuit Low
P0406 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "A" Circuit High

DESCRIPTION

The EGR valve position sensor is mounted on the electric EGR control valve assembly and used for detecting the EGR valve angle. The EGR valve angle detected by the sensor is sent to the ECM as feedback. The ECM then regulates the EGR valve angle in accordance with engine running conditions.

P0405
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Ignition switch ON for 2 seconds or more

EGR valve position sensor output voltage is less than 0.2 V for 2 seconds.

(1 trip detection logic)

  • Open or short in EGR valve position sensor circuit

  • Electric EGR control valve assembly (EGR valve position sensor)

  • ECM

P0406
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Ignition switch ON for 2 seconds or more

EGR valve position sensor output voltage is higher than 4.8 V for 2 seconds.

(1 trip detection logic)

  • Open or short in EGR valve position sensor circuit

  • Electric EGR control valve assembly (EGR valve position sensor)

  • ECM

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

When the output voltage of the EGR valve position sensor deviates from the normal operating range of 0.2 to 4.8 V for more than 2 seconds, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction of the sensor circuit and illuminates the MIL.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EGR VALVE POSITION SENSOR - ECM)

    1. Disconnect the electric EGR control valve assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D123-3 (VC) - D134-128 (VCEG) Always Below 1 Ω
      D123-2 (VTA) - D134-126 (EGLS) Always Below 1 Ω
      D123-1 (E2) - D134-127 (EEGL) Always Below 1 Ω
D123-3 (VC) or D134-128 (VCEG) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
D123-2 (VTA) or D134-126 (EGLS) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the electric EGR control valve assembly connector.

    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
