VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM

  1. DESCRIPTION

When troubleshooting a vehicle with the diagnosis system, the only difference from the usual troubleshooting procedure is connecting the GTS to the vehicle and reading various data output from the vehicle's skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly).

The skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) records DTCs when the ECU detects a malfunction in the ECU itself or in its circuits.

To check the DTCs, connect the GTS to the DLC3 on the vehicle. The GTS enables you to clear the DTCs, activate the various actuators, and check the Freeze Frame Data and Data List.

    1. Check the battery voltage.

If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge the battery before proceeding to the next step.

    2. Check the DLC3 Click here.

    3. DIAGNOSIS

      1. If a malfunction occurs in one part of the system, the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) illuminates the warning light corresponding to the malfunctioning system (ABS warning light, brake warning light or slip indicator light).

      2. The DTCs are simultaneously stored in memory.

The DTCs can be read by connecting SST between terminals TC and CG of the DLC3 and observing the blinking pattern of the ABS warning and slip indicator lights, or by connecting the GTS Click here.

      3. This system has a Test Mode (signal check) function Click here.

    4. WARNING LIGHT AND INDICATOR LIGHT INITIAL CHECK

      1. Release the parking brake.

        Note

When releasing the parking brake, move the shift lever to P (for Automatic Transmission) or set chocks (for Manual Transmission) to prevent the vehicle from rolling.

        Tech Tips

When the parking brake is applied or the brake fluid level is low, the brake warning light comes on.

      2. When the ignition switch is turned to ON, check that the ABS warning, brake warning, VSC OFF indicator, TRC OFF indicator and slip indicator lights illuminate, and then turn off after approximately 3 seconds.

        Tech Tips

        • If a light does not illuminate, check the communication line between the combination meter assembly and skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly).

        • If the ABS warning light or slip indicator light remains illuminated after approximately 3 seconds, check for DTCs and check the corresponding code. If no DTC is output, check the communication line between the combination meter assembly and skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly).
