SECOND BRAKE REASSEMBLY


  1. INSTALL 2ND BRAKE PISTON


    1. A003IAF

      Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them on the 2nd brake piston.

    2. Being careful not to damage the O-rings, and press the 2nd brake piston into the 2nd brake drum with both hands.

  2. INSTALL 2ND BRAKE PISTON RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Install the piston return spring.

    2. Install the spring retainer.

    3. A003BGUE02

      Place SST on the spring retainer, and compress the return spring with a press.

      Note

      Stop compressing when the spring sheet is lowered to the place 1 to 2 mm (0.039 to 0.078 in.) from the snap ring groove, preventing the spring sheet from being deformed.

    4. Using a snap ring expander, install the snap ring.

  3. INSPECT 2ND BRAKE PISTON


    1. A003FPA

      Make sure the 2nd brake piston moves smoothly when applying and releasing low-pressure compressed air to the 2nd brake drum.

  4. INSTALL PLANETARY CARRIER THRUST WASHER NO.4


    1. A003F77

      Coat the thrust washer with petroleum jelly, and install it.

      Tech Tips

      Make sure that the cutout portions of thrust washer fit into the teeth of the spring retainer.
