Coat the 2 oil seal rings with ATF.

    2. Squeeze the ends of the 2 oil seal rings together, and then install them to the O/D support groove.

      Note

Do not spread the ring ends more than necessary.

      Tech Tips

After installing the oil seal rings, check that they rotate smoothly.

  2. INSTALL OVERDRIVE BRAKE PISTON

      Note

Stop compressing when the spring sheet is lowered to the place 1 to 2 mm (0.039 to 0.078 in.) from the snap ring groove, preventing the spring sheet from bearing deformed.

    3. Using a screwdriver, install the snap ring. Be sure the end gap of the snap ring is not aligned with the cutout portion of the O/D support.

    4. A003BNF

Coat the thrust washer with petroleum jelly, and install it onto the O/D support.

      Tech Tips

Make sure that the lug shape fits into the hole on the O/D support.

  4. INSPECT PISTON OPERATION OF OVERDRIVE BRAKE

    1. A003DPG

Place the O/D support assembly onto the direct clutch assembly.

    2. A003FMQ

Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) into the oil passage as shown, and check that the O/D brake piston moves smoothly.
