OVERDRIVE BRAKE DISASSEMBLY

  1. INSPECT PISTON OPERATION OF OVERDRIVE BRAKE

    1. A003DPG

Place the O/D support assembly onto the direct clutch assembly.

    2. A003FMQ

Apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) into the oil passage as shown, and check that the O/D brake piston moves smoothly.

  2. REMOVE OVERDRIVE BRAKE RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. A003BNF

Remove thrust washer from O/D support.

    2. A003C7JE02

Place SST on the spring retainer, and compress the return spring with a press.

      SST
      09350-30020   ( 09350-07030 )

      Note

Stop compressing when the spring sheet is lowered to the place 1 to 2mm(0.039 to 0.078 in.) from the snap ring groove, preventing the spring sheet from being deformed.

    3. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring.

    4. Remove the return spring.

  3. INSPECT OVERDRIVE BRAKE RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. A003AZ4

Measure the free length of the spring together with the spring seat.

      Standard free length
      17.03 mm (0.671 in.)
  4. REMOVE OVERDRIVE BRAKE PISTON

    1. A003BWV

Place the O/D support onto the direct clutch assembly.

    2. A003EFJ

Hold the O/D brake piston so that it does not slant, and apply compressed air into the passage to remove the O/D brake piston.

    3. Remove the O/D brake piston.

    4. Remove the 2 O-rings from the piston.

  5. REMOVE OVERDRIVE CLUTCH DRUM OIL SEAL RING

    1. A003CPX

Remove the 2 O/D clutch drum oil seal rings.
