EGR VALVE (w/o DPF) INSPECTION

  1. INSPECT ELECTRIC EGR CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY

    1. Inspect the vacuum regulating valve.

      1. A003D3IE01

Measure the resistance between the terminals.

        Standard Resistance
        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 11 to 13 Ω
      2. A003H31E01

Apply battery voltage across the terminals and check that air flows from each port.

        Standard
        Inspection Condition Port Air Flow
Battery voltage not applied E - Ventilation port Air flows
        Battery voltage not applied

        Ventilation port - F

        E - F

        Air does not flow
Battery voltage applied E - F Air flows
        Battery voltage applied

        Ventilation port - E

        Ventilation port - F

        Air does not flow

If the result is not as specified, replace the EGR valve.

    2. A003H8VE01

      Inspect the EGR valve.

      Tech Tips

Install a cap to block the other port.

      1. When a vacuum of 26.7 kPa (200 mmHg, 7.87 in.Hg) is applied to the diaphragm chamber, check that the shaft rises and that air flows out.

      2. Maintaining the above conditions, check again that there are no leaks and that the shaft does not lower.

      3. Check that the valve is not stuck and does not have heavy carbon deposits.

If the result is not as specified, replace the EGR valve.

    3. Inspect the EGR valve position sensor.

      1. A003CWL

Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals 1 (VC) and 2 (E2) of the EGR valve position sensor.

        Standard resistance
        4.0 to 6.0 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)

If the result is not as specified, replace the EGR valve.

      2. A003EJ9E01

Create a vacuum in the diaphragm chamber. Measure the resistance between terminals 3 (EGLS) and 2 (E2) of the lift sensor when the valve is fully opened and fully closed.

        Standard Resistance
        EGR Valve Condition Specified Condition
        Fully opened 0.1 to 2.0 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
        Fully closed 2.2 to 7.5 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)

        Tech Tips

        • Install a cap to block the other port.

        • The resistance increases in proportion to the opening angle of the EGR valve.

If the result is not as specified, replace the EGR valve.
