PRE-HEATING SYSTEM (w/ DPF) ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

Note

Turn the ignition switch off for 60 seconds before performing the following inspections.

  1. INSPECT ILLUMINATION DURATION OF GLOW INDICATOR LIGHT

    1. A003F8TE01
      Text in Illustration
*a Glow Indicator Light Illumination Time
      *b Engine Coolant Temperature
*c Atmospheric pressure is 100 kPa

Turn the ignition switch to ON and measure the length of time that the light remains illuminated.

      Light illumination duration
      Refer to the graph.

      Tech Tips

Depending on the engine coolant temperature, the indicator light illumination time changes as shown in the illustration.

  2. INSPECT PRE-HEATING FUNCTION

    1. Measure the voltage applied to the glow plugs.

      Standard voltage
      11 to 14 V at 25°C (77°F) or less
    2. Measure the length of time that voltage is applied to the glow plugs while the ignition switch is ON.

      Standard Pre-heating Time
      Condition Pre-heating Time
Battery voltage 14.5 V or higher 1 second
Engine coolant temperature 40°C (104°F) or higher 1 second
      Other than above 15 seconds
  3. INSPECT AFTERGLOW

    1. Measure the voltage applied to the glow plugs after the engine is started.

      Standard Voltage
      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Engine coolant temperature 40°C (77°F) or less 11 to 14 V
      Engine coolant temperature 40°C (77°F) or higher 0 V

      Tech Tips

The maximum amount of time that voltage is applied to the glow plugs is 20 minutes.
