THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK

Tech Tips

  • Before checking the theft deterrent system function, cancel the entry and start system (w/ Entry and Start System).

  • If the battery is reconnected during the armed state, the system may enter the alarm sounding state and the alarm may sound. If so, perform a wireless unlock operation to stop the alarm.

  • For vehicles with a theft warning siren (self power siren), if the battery is disconnected during the armed state, the system may enter the alarm sounding state and the alarm may sound. If so, perform a wireless unlock operation to stop the alarm.

  1. OUTLINE OF THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM

    1. When the theft deterrent system detects that the vehicle is being tampered with, the horns and the theft warning siren (self power siren) sound and lights flash continuously.

    2. The system has active arming mode (refer to "Active Arming Mode").

    3. Active arming mode has 4 states: disarmed state, arming preparation state, armed state and alarm sounding state.

      1. Disarmed state:

        • The alarm function is not operating.

        • The theft deterrent system is not operating.

      2. Arming preparation state:

        • The theft deterrent system is not operating.

      3. Armed state:

        • The theft deterrent system is operating.

      4. Alarm sounding state:

        • The alarm function is operating (30 +/-5 seconds).

        Alarm Method and Time
Alarm Method Hazard Warning Light Blinking (cycle of flasher relay)
Vehicle Horn Sounding (cycle of 0.4 seconds)
Theft Warning Siren (Self Power Siren) Sounding (cycle of 0.4 seconds)
        Security Indicator Illuminating
        Alarm Time 30 +/-5 seconds

        Tech Tips

If during the alarm sounding state, one of the doors is unlocked without using a proper key, a forced door lock signal will be output (refer to "Forced Door Lock Control").

  2. ACTIVE ARMING MODE

    Tech Tips

    • Active arming mode starts the alarm control immediately after the doors are locked.

    • Before checking the theft deterrent system, cancel the entry and start system (w/ Entry and Start System).

    2. Unlock all doors using mechanical key.

    3. Unlock door.

    4. Open engine hood.

    5. Touch key ornament of key to engine switch for 5 seconds while depressing brake pedal with shift lever in P or N, and turn engine switch on (ACC) or on (IG).*1

    6. Reconnect battery.

    4. Unlock door without using mechanical key.

    5. Disconnect and reconnect battery negative (-) cable.

    6. Force engine ignition system to turn on without proper engine start method.

    7. Intrusion sensor detects movement within vehicle.*2

    8. A glass window is broken*3

*1: w/ Entry and Start System

    *2: w/ Intrusion sensor

    *3: w/ Glass Breakage Sensor

  3. FORCED DOOR LOCK CONTROL

    1. The forced door lock control also helps to prevent the vehicle from being tampered with. When a door is unlocked and the alarm starts, the door is forced to lock by a forced door lock signal.

      1. Conditions that force the doors to lock:

        • 0.4 seconds have elapsed after the previous output of a forced door lock signal.

        • The theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state of active arming mode.

        • A door is unlocked.

  4. SECURITY INDICATOR OUTPUT

    1. The security indicator turns on and off based on output signals from the main body ECU (instrument panel junction block). However, in some cases, the actual status of the security indicator is different from the output signals of the main body ECU (instrument panel junction block).

      Output
State of Theft Deterrent System Security Indicator
Output Signals from ECU Actual Lighting Condition
      Disarmed state Off

      Off (Immobiliser system not set)

      Blinking (Immobiliser system set)

      Arming preparation state On On
      Armed state Off Blinking
      Alarm sounding state On On
      Blinking Cycle
      Time Security Indicator
      0.2 seconds On
      1.8 seconds Off

      Tech Tips

When the engine immobiliser system is set, the security indicator blinks during the disarmed state and the armed state due to the output signals from the engine immobiliser system.
