ENTRY AND START SYSTEM(for Entry Function) OPERATION CHECK

  1. ENTRY AND START SYSTEM OPERATION INSPECTION

    1. Check the entry unlock function.

      1. Use the wireless lock operation to lock the doors. With the key in your possession, touch a door outside handle (touch sensor) and check that the door unlocks.

    2. Check the entry unlock operation detection area.

      1. Step 1: Hold the key at the same height as the door outside handle (approximately 0.8 m (2.62 ft.)). Pay attention to the direction of the key in the illustration.

      2. Step 2: Check that when the key is brought within 0.7 to 1.0 m (2.30 to 3.28 ft.) of the vehicle, the system enters unlock standby mode.

Step 3: After the system enters unlock standby mode, touch the sensor on the outside handle within 3 seconds. Check that the door unlocks.

        Note

The key may not be able to communicate with the system within a 0.2 m (0.656 ft.) radius of each outside handle.

      4. Step 4: Repeat step 2 and step 3 for the remaining doors.

      5. Step 5: Inspect the door electrical key oscillator response sensitivity. Wear protective gloves, set the system to unlock standby mode, and check that touching the inner side of the outside handle (the highlighted area in the illustration) with your finger causes the door to unlock.

        Note

When touching the highlighted area, tapping too quickly or having extended contact may not trigger the sensor. In such a case, the door will not unlock.

      6. Step 6: Repeat step 5 for the remaining doors.

    3. Check the entry lock function.

      1. Step 1: Close all doors of the vehicle. With the key outside the vehicle, check that touching the lock sensor locks the doors.

        Tech Tips

        • When touching the lock sensor, hold the electrical key transmitter about 1 m (3.28 ft.) above the ground and about 0.3 m (0.984 ft.) away from the vehicle as shown in the illustration.

        • Due to the key being unable to communicate with the system within a 0.2 m (0.656 ft.) radius from the outside handle, do not touch the lock sensor with the same hand that is holding the key. The doors may not lock.

        • If the key lock-in prevention function buzzer sounds, radio waves from the indoor electrical key oscillator may be leaking from the vehicle.

      2. Step 2: Repeat step 1 for the remaining doors.

    4. Check the entry luggage compartment door open function (for Sedan).

      1. Close the luggage compartment door. With the key in your possession, check that pressing the luggage door opener switch opens the luggage compartment door.

      2. Inspect the detection area of the entry back door open operation. Hold the key at the same height as the back door opener switch (approximately 0.8 m (2.62 ft.)) and aligned with the center of the rear of the vehicle. Pay attention to the direction of the key shown in the illustration. Check that the when the key is brought within 0.7 to 1.0 m (2.30 to 3.28 ft.) of the vehicle, pressing the back door opener switch unlocks all the doors and unlocks the back door.

Step 1: Close all of the vehicle doors. With the key in your possession outside of the vehicle, check that pressing the back door lock switch locks all the doors.

        Tech Tips

        • When pressing the lock switch, hold the electrical key transmitter about 1 m (3.28 ft.) above the ground and about 0.3 m (0.984 ft.) away from the vehicle as shown in the illustration.

        • Due to the key being unable to communicate with the system within a 0.2 m (0.656 ft.) radius from the center of the rear of the vehicle, do not press the lock switch with the same hand that is holding the key. The doors may not lock.

        • If the key lock-in prevention function buzzer sounds, radio waves from the indoor electrical key oscillator may be leaking from the vehicle.

    7. Check the entry ignition function.

      1. When the engine control system is off: With the key in your possession and the brake pedal (except Manual Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle) depressed, check that pressing the engine switch releases the steering wheel lock and starts the engine control system.

        Tech Tips

        • The engine control system can be started only when the engine switch indicator illumination is green.

        • Even when not depressing the brake pedal (except Manual Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle), continually pressing the engine switch for 15 seconds when the engine switch is on (ACC) can start the engine control system.

      2. When the engine control system is running: With the key in your possession, check that pressing the engine switch stops the engine control system and activates the steering wheel lock.

        Tech Tips

The shift lever must be in P to be able to stop the engine control system (except Manual Transaxle).

        Note

The engine control system cannot be started when the key is on the instrument panel or rear package tray, or in the glove box.

    8. Check the key lock-in prevention function.

      Note

To prevent key lock-in, perform the inspection with one of the door windows open.

      1. Place the key in the vehicle with all doors locked. Check that, when all the doors are locked through keyless operation (move the lock knob to the lock position and then close the door), the wireless buzzer sounds for seconds and all the doors are unlocked.

        Note

If the key in inside a metal storage item, such as a metal briefcase or metal box, the key will not be able to be detected by the system.

    9. Check the key lock-in prevention function (for luggage compartment).

      1. Place the key in the luggage compartment with all doors locked. Check that: 1) closing the luggage compartment door triggers the wireless buzzer (which lasts approximately 2 seconds), and 2) pressing the luggage door opener switch opens the luggage compartment door.

Inspect the key lock-in prevention detection area and the entry door control receiver for wave leaks. Hold the key at the same height as the lower edge of the luggage compartment door and aligned with the center of the rear of the vehicle. Pay attention to the direction and position of the key shown in the illustration. Check that when the key is over 0.1 m (0.3 ft.) from the rear bumper, the wireless buzzer does not sound. If the warning buzzer sounds, the entry door control receiver may have a wave leak.

    10. Check the key cancel function.

      1. While the engine switch is on (IG), check that the back door opener switch is the only switch in the entry and start system that can be operated.

      2. While the key cancel function (entry and start system cancel function) is on, check that all functions in the entry and start system cannot be operated.

    11. Check the answer-back function (hazard warning light flashing).

      2. Open the driver side door and check that the buzzer sounds intermittently.

    13. Check that the key reminder warning buzzer stops.

      1. When the buzzer is sounding, check that the buzzer stops sounding if either of the following is performed:

        • Close the driver side door (front door courtesy light switch is off).

        • Turn the engine switch on (IG).
