CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

  • When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs Registration and Initialization Click here.

  • After replacing the EGR valve assembly, the ECM needs initialization Click here.

  • Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

Tech Tips

  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initialization/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the GTS display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    4. Read the DTCs.

  2. CHECK INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Start the engine.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Intake Air Temp (Turbo).

      OK
A value excessively higher than the actual intake air temperature is not displayed.

    NG
    OK
  3. CHECK TURBO PRESSURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY

    1. Check for DTCs related to the turbo pressure sensor assembly.

    NG
    OK
  4. CHECK INTAKE SYSTEM

    1. Start the engine.

    2. Check air duct between intake silencer, mass air flow meter and turbocharger for leaks.

    3. Check air duct between turbocharger and intake manifold for leaks.

      Tech Tips

      • Oily patches are signs of leaks.

      • Check whether sealing rings on charge air hoses are rolled back or missing.

      OK
      No leakage.

    NG
    OK
  5. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (ACTUATOR TEST OF EGR-VALVE)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Start the engine.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Actuator Test of EGR-Valve / Data List / Target EGR Position and Actual EGR Valve Pos.

    5. Perform the following steps 1 to 4.

    6. Step 1

      1. Perform Actuator Test of EGR-Valve with control value of 0% (opening ratio in %).

      2. Monitor the difference of the control value and EGR valve Actuator Position value (0 +/- 3%). EGR valve must operate within 1 second.

    7. Step 2

      1. Wait for 2 seconds or more.

    8. Step 3

      1. Perform Actuator Test of EGR-Valve with control value of 94% (opening ratio in %).

      2. Monitor the difference of the control value and EGR valve Actuator Position value (0 +/- 3%). EGR valve must operate within 1 second.

    9. Step 4

      1. Wait for 2 seconds or more.

    10. Perform the above steps 1 to 4 and check that the part operates as specified.

      OK
      Part operates as specified.

      Tech Tips

      • If DTCs P00BD, P042F or P1268 is output, there may be a malfunction in the EGR system.

      • This inspection is primarily to check that the EGR valve is not clogged with soot and not stuck closed.

    NG

  6. CHECK EGR COOLER ASSEMBLY

    1. Check the EGR cooler assembly Click here.

    2. Check that the airflow is not slowed by soot deposits in the EGR cooler.

      OK
Airflow is not slowed by soot deposits.

      Tech Tips

If a malfunction is detected during this inspection, soot deposits may be accumulating in the EGR cooler.

    NG
