Either condition is met (3 trip detection logic):


  • Malfunction in part of glow plug controller assembly which outputs to No. 1 glow plug for 1.2 seconds or more

  • Glow plug controller assembly detects resistance malfunction in No. 1 glow plug for 1.2 seconds or more


  • Glow plug controller assembly

  • No. 1 glow plug

  • Open or short in No. 1 glow plug circuit

  • Malfunction in part of glow plug controller assembly which outputs to No. 2 glow plug for 1.2 seconds or more

  • Glow plug controller assembly

  • No. 2 glow plug

  • Open or short in No. 2 glow plug circuit

  • Open or short in No. 4 glow plug circuit

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (GLOW PLUG CONTROLLER ASSEMBLY - GLOW PLUG)


    1. Disconnect connectors of the glow plug controller assembly.

    2. Remove the glow plug connector from the glow plug.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Q1-4 (GL1) - Q2-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Q1-1 (GL2) - Q3-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Q1-6 (GL3) - Q4-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Q1-5 (GL4) - Q5-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Q1-4 (GL1) or Q2-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Q1-1 (GL2) or Q3-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Q1-6 (GL3) or Q4-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Q1-5 (GL4) or Q5-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    OK
  2. REPLACE GLOW PLUG


    1. Replace the glow plug Click here.


    NEXT
  3. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    4. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 60 seconds or more [A].

    5. Perform road test [B].

    6. Repeat [A] and [B] for the number of trips detected.

    7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    8. Confirm that the DTC is not output again.

  4. REPLACE GLOW PLUG CONTROLLER ASSEMBLY


    1. Replace the glow plug controller assembly Click here.

  5. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR


    1. Repair or replace the harness or connector.


    NEXT
  6. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    4. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 60 seconds or more [A].

    5. Perform road test [B].

    6. Repeat [A] and [B] for the number of trips detected.
