P1098 Maximum Rail Pressure Exceeded

DESCRIPTION

For information on the fuel system, refer to System Description Click here.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P0088

One of following conditions is met (1 trip detection logic):

  • When rail pressure control is performed according to the fuel quantity control valve, the negative control deviation is the standard value or higher for 2 seconds.

  • When rail pressure control is performed according to the fuel quantity control valve, the rail pressure is the standard value (approximately 175000 kPa) or more for 0.24 seconds.

  • When rail pressure control is performed according to the pressure discharge valve, the negative control deviation is the standard value or higher for 2 seconds.

  • When rail pressure control is performed according to the pressure discharge valve, the rail pressure is the standard value (approximately 215000 kPa) or more for 0.24 seconds.

Tech Tips

The detection standard value is calculated according to the engine speed and vehicle speed.

  • Fuel quantity control valve (fuel supply pump assembly)

  • Open or short in fuel quantity control valve (fuel supply pump assembly) circuit

  • Pressure discharge valve

  • Open or short in pressure discharge valve circuit

  • ECM

P1098

Common rail internal pressure is 215000 kPa or more for 0.3 seconds.

(3 trip detection logic)

  • Pressure discharge valve (jammed closed)

  • Fuel quantity control valve (stuck open) (fuel supply pump assembly)

Note

  • When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs Registration and Initialization Click here.

  • After replacing the fuel supply pump assembly, the ECM needs initialization Click here.

  • After replacing the pressure discharge valve, the ECM needs initialization Click here.

  • Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

Tech Tips

  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initialization/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the GTS display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    4. Read the DTCs.
